So thanks to all for your input! I think I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on the 280 with a view to upgrading the rest of my Mobo and CPU in the future, though I'll post back my impressions with the 955.

Yes, the CPU & board will come eventually, I was just curious to see how much of a gain I'd get in the short-term from just the 280.

This was the longterm plan :) Currently on an Asus M4A79XTD-EVO which unfortunately is only an AM3 socket, so will be a new board and chip, may jump to Intel depending on what price/performance is like at the time.

Yes, I do realise this, I just thought I'd put my general future intentions for my rig in case the 280 wouldn't be man enough for gaming 1080 @ 50-60fps on high to max settings, the rest of my rig aside.

Well for the watercooling, I know a website that sells loads of great watercooling gear. They also sell 'kits' - not pre-built poor quality ones, but more like a selection of all the 'proper' compatible parts that you would need to build your system - so you have no risk of buying a wrong part...

Just use a DVI-D to DVI-D cable. My card (HD5870) seems to accept any kind of cable so, I'm guessing thats the same for most cards?

If you have a half-decent power supply, over 500w preferably, I'd say you should be fine just slapping another 5770 in.

Asus seem to be having an issue with the motherboard selection on their website. If you go to http://support.asus.com/download/ and type your board's model number in the search box to the top left, it will show your board. Looks like theres a couple of BIOS updates out for it :)

Would recommend an Arctic Cooling 64 Freezer Pro, I have one cooling my (AM3) Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition. Works fine for stock speeds (3.2GHz), can overclock it to 3.6GHz and have decent temps. It's pretty quiet too. This cooler fits fine blowing towards the back of the case as normal...

Well, I went to Asus' website, went to the download section for my motherboard, M4A79XTD-EVO and downloaded AI-Suite. I can't find 'fanxpert' :S looks totaly different to what you have there birfday2k. Processor currently running at stock speeds btw.

Interesting. I bought a Corsair TX650w a few months ago to have it blow up on me the other week, yet the 3 year old 500w 'no brand' PSU I was using before the Corsair is still capable of running the machine :D
