    Hard Drive Whistle

This is probably a good sign in a way that you new rig is actually quiet or you probably wouldn't notice this! But I get you. Ever since replacing a Fermi with a GTX 680 I can hear all kinds of weird and wonderful sounds that were drowned out previously. Quietest drives I've ever used by far are...

    WD My Passport Blinking Light??

Yep, you need to properly turn the PC off i.e. at the wall or switch on power supply, otherwise it will continue to supply power to the USB ports. You can also set the drive standby timer using SmartWare.

    685 GTX specs GK110

I just bought a GTX 680 and don't feel terribly threatened or deflated by the imminent release of the "685". The 680 is a significant upgrade from my 470 and couldn't be happier with it. Thing is there are many folks who asume the "685" will somehow be released as a direct replacement and at the...

    Question fior 680 owners..

EVGA and no whine. In fact the card is so quiet compared to my previous 470 I initially thought I had coil whine. Turned out it was the hard disks idling which shows how much noise the Fermi was making and just how silent the 680 is.

    6Gb DDR3 to 12Gb Upgrade

Well, it's 6 or 12 GB for tri-channel so it may be a little overkill vs 8 GB but with the prices of RAM as low as they are right now then why not. I see you are running Photoshop and it can make a difference. You can assign a silly amount of RAM to it and coupled with a 64-bit version, it will...

    Smart Readings

Seems to be an issue only with Seagate drives. Bunch of ours at work throwing up the same errors but can't find any fault as such with the drives. Have run Seatools (and other) diagnostics with no problems detected. Guessing it's a bug in the way SMART data is logged for Seagate drives. I'd make...

Transfer between 2 SATA drives, very slow!?

I have experienced exactly this problem, inculding the transient write speed and system stutters during writes to the suspect drive, in this case a relatively new VelociRaptor. Like the issue you describe the transfer was mysteriously smooth during reads. Tried numerous error checks, setting...

    USB 3.0 Woes...

This it seems is a very common issue. I have experienced this myself, to much annoyance, on several occassions and also others I know trying to access HDDs through USB 3.0. There is a quick fix that won't require a reboot but still some hoops to jump through. If the drive doesn't detect when...

New drives: 200 bad sectors; normal?

I would check your RAID is set up and working as it should. Update any RAID drivers, etc. Also try running a checkdisk within windows and check the option to fix filesystem errors. I'd make a backup of any vital data too since there is clearly some problem. What drives are you using...

New drives: 200 bad sectors; normal?

Why would he want to return a perfectly working drive that has passed the WD diagnostic? You are still reading the SMART attributes incorrectly. Take a look below of some SMART test I just run on a WD HDD ... The value you are reading is a fixed parameter. You are after...

New drives: 200 bad sectors; normal?

I suspect you are reading the results wrong. Look in the Raw Values column to see how many sectors have actually been rellocated. It should be (or very close to) zero for a new drive. If the drives really have failed this particular test, you can RMA the drives under warranty.

    SSD CACHE DRIVE HELP!

Couldn't be easier. All of the above mentioned programs have menu options to allow you to set the cache on any drive you choose. I've always had the Photoshop scratch disk on a secondary drive (or drives) for example.

    ASUS Rampage III Gene help

Not exactly the same board, I have the Rampage III Extereme, but had the same issue with a tri-channel kit of OCZ RAM that would occassionally show up as 4 GB rather than 6 GB until a reboot. Tested the DIMMs individually and again on another rig with no errors. Swapped it for Kingston HyperX...

    Corsair 800D air cooling question

Have experimented quite a bit with various arrangements of fans on top of the 800D and found two as exhaust worked best for me. Adding the third exhaust pulls some of the airflow from the bottom intake straight out that would otherwise be better drawn over the motherboard / GPU.

    Silent DVD Drive?

I very much doubt there is such a thing as a silent DVD drive but from past experience LG drives are about as quiet as they come and fairly reliable.

    Asus rampage III Extreme

Having problems with the new BIOS? Any idea this new setting does? Seen some mention of vague problems on other forums with this BIOS so a bit reluctant to update right now, especially given 1208 seems to be very stable.

Samsung .... RMA taking ages! Is this normal?

I returned an F3 some time ago myself and in my account page it still reads: We are currently awaiting a replacement from our supplier. Thing is the replacement drive did actually turn up some time ago also. RMA received 20 Nov and replacement sent 02 Dec. So I think your best bet is simply to...

    Western Digital Caviar Black Drives.

Opinions will be varied of course but I find this drive to be anything but quiet. Don't get me wrong it's not so loud as to be annoying but I can hear it above several fans in the system. I have disabled AAM on the drive which is a factor but if it's not a system drive you might want to leave...
