    win7 sorrow...

Not going to lecture you on what you should use as you can make up your own mind... -Facts- XP doesn't support multicore processors as well. This is largely a non-issue as the biggest benefactors (Applications) of multicore processors generally handle them pretty well on either version...

Dodgy drivers or if not, possibly a card on it's last legs.

Mozilla Firefox using a lot of system memory

It remembers the entire history (back/forward) and cache for all tabs including "recently closed tabs". This can be hundreds of pages at the end of a day. Other browsers afaik dont have this facility.

AMD and NVIDIA butt heads over physics

I honestly don't understand Nvidia's decisions with Physx. I see that they wanted to control the market but I also see that no mainstream development is going to make use of it to the extent of shutting out 30-35% of the market (ATI users). I can't see how anyone at Nvidia saw a different...

Possible ATI News * well I think that's what it says*

The roadmap has shown the 6xxx series (new arch) to be Q1 next year. As the same was true of the roadmap for the 5xxx series I would not be surprised if they arrived in Q4 this year.

    Firefox whats the big deal

See this just isn't the experience I have with it. On my connection the delay exceeds the time required to render all the text and the layout correctly (0.25s). The page is essentially done, bar graphics, instantly. No half loaded pages, no screwed layout. The only difference on my connection is...

    Firefox whats the big deal

IE8 is actually more strict many other browsers in terms of standards compliance. This is especially true of Firefox. This is why some non-compliant CSS does not work in IE8 where it does elsewhere. This is essentially a complete reversal of their IE6 strategy. It is true that it has fallen...

    Firefox whats the big deal

Doesn't happen here, there is absolutely no reason why it should fail to load. If you're experiencing that, it's a bug. The point of it is to speed up the overall page rendering. The reality seems to be that often the entire page render will be delayed by one insignificant part.

    Firefox whats the big deal

There is an intentional delay. You can go to about:config and set "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" to "0" If you care a lot about speed you can make some other tweaks. I use these settings: "network.http.max-connections" to "40" "network.http.max-connections-per-server" to "16"...

    IE8 Successfully Exploited on Windows 7 64bit

Found this: The day one of Pwn2Own just got over and the results gave me a Déjà vu. Browsers started falling starting with Safari on Snow Leopard followed by Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3. The Safari hack was once again claimed by Charlie Miller, this time third year in a row. Peter...

Germany warns against use of Firefox browser

Nope, Opera themselves are warning against use of 10.5 which was supplied to the many users of the browser choice screen in the EU. Only Chrome left! Unless you care about privacy that is...

What Is The Best Gaming CPU?

If you plan to keep the PC until at least Q2 2011 go i5. You will need to change motherboard whatever you upgrade to past that date (Sandy Bridge is out then). If you plan to upgrade again before 2011 go i7. You will have the option to use the 6-core Gulftown. The i5 currently represents the...

    organised religion

You cannot "make" people criminals either, but if you provide the right conditions (poor education, few opportunities, morally questionable family, high reward for crime) there is a vastly greater probability they will become one. I think you'll find your environment shapes you down to the...

Audigy 2 ZS upgrade to X-Fi Xtreme Gamer: worth it?

Better Snr(Sound to noise ratio), arguably better outputs, clearly higher quality inputs, the extremely high quality Burr-Brown DACs, dolby dts, much better drivers. I can't say as I don't have your hearing or speakers, but I would imagine so. If you don't you wont with any other sound card...

*yawn* Why all the 32/64GB SSDs coming out lately?

Not everyone uses Windows (or Windows exclusively). The 32/64gb drives are ideal for netbooks and / or use as a *nix boot drive. Unfortunately the prohibitive cost of the larger drives prevents them being that useful for Windows users. My problem is they simply don't make consumer SSDs large...

Why is Windows (apparently) less secure than other OSes? Also re: NTFS fragmentation.

Check the linked source at the bottom of that article "Source: Tuxradar" It goes to the article I linked earlier. Yeah, I can't see the relevance of "drm checks" when discussing file copy performance either.
