If an I7 6 core is overclocked to the level of a 4 core, say 4.0 ghz does it produce a lot more heat ? If so can standard air such as the D-14 handle it or would you have to use water
The new Swiftech kits will use the new Apogee XTL waterblock which they claim has the same performance as the XT, since the XT was considered top of the range what is it about these kits that many say they are a good beginners WC setup ?
If the XTL is so good ( the XT is one of the best...
The Zalman extreme is not the best cooler you could have got but since you are only running 6 GB RAM you should be able to hit 4.2 Ghz at far lower temps than you are getting
My stable 4.2 is hot for 2 reasons 1. I have a thirsty CPU but more importantly i have 12 G RAM which calls for a high...
This is using a Noctua NH-D14 load at 87 C

If only my 930 could do this !!
I would have thought that a multi-billion pound operation would have the inhouse expertise to answer your questions and/or the ability to get accurate information from Intel and AMD directly.. and yes i have designed server solutions for several mutli-billion pound organizations in the past and...
I seem by habit to enable optimised defaults before overclocking and from what i can see all it does is change the CPU and pcie clock drives from 700 700 to 800 900
Are there any other changes made ? Are their hidden, occult settings changed in the system ?
Should i in fact use opt...
Can someone, gently, explain to me the preferred fan specs for HS and Case,
I read comments about static pressure but it seems that most 120 fans are not described as HS or Case, airflow in CFM is given but no indication as to whether the fan would be best for a HS or Case
If someone could...
On the gigabyte site it seems that most 1366 MB's are rated at "100 % 50,000 hrs lifespan" so they are calculating that capacitors will hit 85C perhaps they are erring on the safe side
Gigabyte Motherboards Overclocking and Lifespan
I just noticed this snippet from the technology guide and shows the effect of temperature on capacitors, how this equates to north and southbridge temps i am not sure, but it is interesting
The Noctua is quieter, cools better has possibley better thermal paste included and the lifespan seems better, Titan comes with 1 fan Noctua comes with 2. Titan give a lifespan of their cooler at 60,000 hours ( i assume this is the fan ?) Noctua gives 150,000 hours...
I bet the differences are a few degrees at most and getting identicle TIM application, BIOS settings case air flow would be highly unlikely so unless the difference are large. or testing is done rigoursly under lab conditions......
