Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

I have ran memtest a number of times and it has never reported errors. You've made me quite concerned though so I'm going to do another memtest run tonight!

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

I have had sleep mode disabled since before I began OCing, so that can't be the cause. I even tried turning off the screen saver during a prime run before, and still had the blank screen. I do have an issue though, that whenever I exit a game my screen will freeze temporarily, go blank for a...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

Well bad news.. Got the blank/unresponsive screen during prime at around the 3hr mark.. This happened last night so before going to bed I started another run, this time with the QPI voltage bumped to 1.35v (it refused to load windows with 1.2v) and 1.86 PLL. Came in to find a '124' code...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

That's a no go unfortunately. LinX fails with stock PLL (1.8). Haven't tried it anywhere in between though. I know I shouldn't need anywhere near 1.88 PLL for 4GHz though so that's definitely something I want to get down. I'm going to wait to see if I'm a full 12 hrs prime stable with these...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

Yeah I wasn't aware of that at all. I thought it was just the UCLK Frequency that needed to be 2x the ram freq. I had heard nothing about the QPI Data Rate while looking at guides. I think different terms were being used to refer to the same setting, and that's how it slipped over my head.

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

Yeah I suppose you're right guys. I should have taken things slower and worked up. Guess I was just too hungry for some instant horse power! Anyway so as I explained in my last post, things seem to be looking up as far as getting my current OC prime stable. Let me reiterate - The 4GHz OC was...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

Seems the opinon is very mixed on this to me. Is there not some form of vdroop in memory voltage though, making it safe to set to 1.66? Also if it's not likely the increase to 1.66v actually solved my prime stability problem (and it was the QPI change) then I will put it back to 1.64. What...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

Well looks like I actually managed to make some progress as far as getting prime stable. Here's what I did. DRAM voltage from 1.64 - 1.66 QPI Link Data Rate - from 'Auto' to 64_ _ something, can't remember. Lowest setting anyway. Before I was getting a freeze during prime at pretty much 45...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

I think I may have tried that already but I'll do it again anyway just in case. Also should I be setting the 'QPI Link Data Rate' to anything in particular? Couldn't find much info on it. EDIT: Yeah I was just going to ask about messing with the QPI/DRAM voltage some more. I don't think I...

Very bad/thirsty i7 930 or am I just not doing it right?

I have been doing my head in for the past couple of weeks since I put my new x58/i7 system together. Basically I just can't seem to get 4GHz 'stable', and I have already reached my voltage limit... I really am quite shocked at the amount of volts I have had to put into this chip... It's...

BIOS only detecting 4gb out of 6...

True! I'm really gutted.. I'm guessing I'll have to send back all the modules to OcUK then.. Would be great if I could just send the bad one which would at least leave me with a usable system.

BIOS only detecting 4gb out of 6...

Right well I took your advice and started testing each slot individually. The system wasn't posting at all in any of the slots with the first module I tried. Grabbed a different stick and it posted..... So I guess this means a bad stick?

BIOS only detecting 4gb out of 6...

Got my new parts a couple of days ago (i7 930, ASUS P6T SE, 6GB Patriot Viper, TX850). Everything seemed to work fine. Then today while in the BIOS I noticed that it was reporting only 4088MB of memory. Windows also shows only 4gb. CPU-Z however detects all three 2GB modules. I have tried...

    DPD tracking problem..

Actually I just tried it again right after I finished posting the thread and it seems to be working again now! Worrying over nothing :)

    DPD tracking problem..

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this issue (or if it even is an issue).. So basically I have been tracking my order from OcUK since it was shipped on Friday, and the tracking/consignment number was working and displaying it's progress fine on the DPD site. Now I know it's Sunday, but...

Has my motherboard met it's end? Anything left to try?

Read it again. Desperation (nothing left to try). I knew the crashfree would kick in (I had done it before to revert to older bioses), which it did. Could have done without your insulting post. Why people like you feel the need to make such useless, provocative posts is beyond me.

Has my motherboard met it's end? Anything left to try?

Well it didn't work. The method is quite straightforward so I doubt I did anything wrong. Started it up with the file on the USB, pressed down the Ctrl + Home keys and nothing. Still no signal. Monitor light just flashing away. Any other suggestions?

Has my motherboard met it's end? Anything left to try?

It certainly does help! Thank you for letting me know kind sir! I may as well give it a shot tonight with my USB stick. One last attempt at resurrection! So is this method proven to work, even with issues that involve no signal appearing on the monitor which is my situation?

Has my motherboard met it's end? Anything left to try?

The manufacturer of the bios is AMI. And unfortunately I don't have a floppy drive so will be unable to try the suggested bios recovery (blind bios flash). Thanks for trying to help guys but I'm pretty much decided upon new hardware. It'll be a new PSU/x58 mb/RAM/i7 CPU. Any other suggestions...

    I7 930 vs 920 D0

Great info, thanks! Was not aware that all 930's are D0 stepping. In that case I think I will definitely be better off going with the i7 930 then as the price difference on the site really is minimal.
