I'm gutted. Nearly bought from said shop last week but I was away for xmas in such a remote place that we only had 4 TV channels (3 of them snowy) and occasional mobile reception only when standing on a chair!
Also - cannot believe how used to Sky+ we are!!! Kept trying to rewind normal...
I Fancy a new monitor for gaming, development & general browsing to replace my current 22" monitor. Reasons for upgrading include better resolution (up from 1680x1050) and more real estate (up to 24") but at a budget price range (<£200).
I read a load of reviews & opinions (many here -...
Loved DOW1 (inc expansions) unconditionally.
Learnt to appreciate DOW2 different direction & progressively liked it a lot.
Played it to death, several times but didnt play the multiplayer as much as DOW1 (how good would mutant the child of DOW1 & 2 be????VERY I think).
mothballed all other...
Ive just bought the OCZ Vertex 60GB (OCUK special) from a 7200 samsung 500GB HDD.
Windows7 load & shutdown times are down to about 20-25 & 5 secs respectively (which is a bit anal!), but the real improvement is in general PC use. It's the timy seek times that make the difference I think. IE...
I had a few slowdown issues with my 8800GT at full detail on 1680x1050 (i.e. when I stupidly pick fireball in a big melee & my party in the middle of it!).
Not a flicker on 5850 tho (as expected) and the effects are subtly prettier!

ps- I LOVE this game! ;)
Will do. I'll put it in a seperate thread with a really clear title to catch as many people as possible. ;)
Install went well last night - in the end I didnt bother disconnecting the old drive. I just picked the new drive from the windows install screen & it "just worked". Only remaining...
....but you couldnt use TRIM with SSD's in Raid I think (no TRIM = reduced speed over time as previously used blocks are not reused - Link).
Also I would have thought SSD was quick enough without Raid (I hope so anyway!).

Thanks for reply. That was my worry - Ive only installed Win7 a few times & only then from scratch...
I think the gotcha is when you want some games on one drive & some games on another - I didnt think Steam likes that particular setup (although hope to be proved wrong). The symlinks...
Thanks - I was concerned about the Windows install "seeing" my other installation on my other drive.
Regarding installation in steam - I can help with that one! ;)
Try this search: Symlinks
SymLinks (or NTFS junctions) are pointers in the operating system. Think of them a little like...
I'm installing my new 60Gb vertex SSD as a boot drive & keeping the existing 500Gb drive alongside it (with different partitions). The current drive obviously has OS installed. Just want to confirm order now so I don't miss anything & waste time tonight!!!
1). Backup old drive contents to...
can anyone confirm the cache for this model please?
ocuk says 32mb, several other (more expensive) retailers specifying 64mb.
Either there are two very similar flavours of the drive or its the same drive & someones description is incorrect!
Thanks

btw - sorry for typo in title!!!
Thanks for reply.
I noticed that the 60gb vertex deal on ocuk is 32mb cache. The ones on other retailers are 64mb cache. Anyone know if the deal ones cheaper because they are the older discontinued models?
Ive previously posted about getting a 40Gb Intel x25-V for my netbook to test it out. This is justified (for me!) so I can use the current 160Gb netbook drive in a cheap caddy as an external drive for file backups. I really want one for my desktop too, but can't afford an 80Gb one & 40Gb is just...
I'm considering exactly the same at the moment.
Initially I was going for a cheap 1.5TB external job (under £100 everywhere).
After some thought I decided I really wanted:
Smaller, sleeker one that easier to carry around if required.
Self powered via USB so no additional power cables...
Heard lots of good things about them & was considering sticking a small SSD in my netbook for snappiness.
But, whats the best setup for a normal desktop?
Do you stick a little SSD in for Windows & retain existing SATAII HDD for everything else? Or do you run games & applications on SSD'...
Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this problem one of my colleagues is having.
- E6650 @ 2.33Ghz,
- 2gb Ram,
- Radeon HD 2400 Pro.
- 2 x 'Hanns-G' 19" LCD monitors.
He extends his desktop across both monitors with a splitter cable (both running at 1280x1024 )but all of a...
got mine today! :D
Was delayed due to another part of order not being in warehouse (although it read as in-stock).Friendly helpful service to sort that out via webnotes (& got the latest price too).
All in all, well impressed OCUK ;)
Good point! Bit of an error between my desk & chair there!
I phoned as well but I was at "position 1" when the phone lines closed a few mins ago. Prob missed it. :( Gutted.
How annoying - I deliberated for ages about it at yesterday's price. I even waited until later yesterday in...
