My advice would be to subject access request the CCTV footage of yourself. Inspect the footage and decide if the Tesco security had any grounds to detain you at all. You may of done something purely instinctively, a body movement or some action which looked like you may have attempted a theft...
This has also happened to me. Except they came over the forecourt tannoy system telling me to remove my lid. Yet next to me was a people carrier filling up with 3 females wearing face viels. I felt very embarrassed and bemused by it all.

Having myself had a few face to face run-ins with government ministers (not just tories), I can safely say that this is not an isolated case. And funnily enough they all seem to stem from the induviduals concerened not following basic protocol which everyone else is expected to follow.
