    Road Cycling Essentials

I have a Volt 1200, am pretty impressed with it. Upgraded from a Cateye Nanoshot Plus for this winter, it is a big improvement. Full beam is very bright indeed, only ever needed on until roads (where it is very welcome). I use the low + flashing high mode most of the time, which gives out enough...

Ever have someone send you something without you even paying?

I once got sent 2x Sapphire Vapor-X 5870s instead of the one I'd ordered. Unfortunately, the retailer realised their mistake, but organising collection was going to be such hassle I just paid for the second one... :(

Upgrading Macbook Pro to OS X Mountain Lion

How much RAM do you have? I wouldn't bother trying with less than 4GB - the experience for me on Lion with 2GB is less than pleasant.

    First Mac Purchase

The spec that you want (and can't get!) is obviously the best. I would be going with the 11" over the 13" purely because 4GB is going to be the rate limiting step in the future - it's the minimum amount of RAM you can really get away with when using OS X Lion. The 11" MBA can still drive a huge...

You've highlighted it yourself - value is subjective. Monetary value is just one metric.

Pens. Yes, really. I want to talk about pens.

I have one of these: The one thing is the cartridges don't last all that long, I should use a bottle really.

    Basic probability question

    I think you're right, and then the probability of the child being a sufferer would be 1/4 * (2/3)^2 = 1/9. I think. :p

How many combinations of this pattern are there?

Are you allowed to revisit nodes (as opposed to backtracking) ?

    Journalism? Statistics? Nonsense...

The odds of an MP winning twice is 240 to 1. Him winning twice is 58k to 1, but the chance of him winning again is 240 to 1. So his comment about visiting the bookies a few days ago is a little off...

    Quick Maths question

That means the solutions of f(x) = 0 [an equation] are -1, 2 & 5. f(x) is an expression, 'roots' implies solutions to f(x) = 0. The question doesn't mean 0 is a root. So you know the roots, thus in factorised form, f(x) = (x-5)(x-2)(x+1). Then multiply this out: (x-5)(x-2)(x+1) = (x-5)(x^2 - x...
