Black Magic Intensity Pro is around £130 and can capture 720p. I'm not entirely sure if you can capture the PS3 over HDMI as I believe Sony HDCP the HDMI from the PS3.
I've seen people over clock them. You may also want to check out XBMC with something like the Live XBMC. I supports VDPAU out of the box so will offload all video processing to the gpu and the atom only has to handle the OS/menus.
EDIT: All compatible which I believe is h.264.
I do know that...
The Asrock Ion 330 looks good. Depends on where you're playing your HD from. The Ion 330 can use a Blu-Ray drive as it's got an Nvidia graphics card to offload the whole processing onto.

Still getting those crazy artifacts > http://imgur.com/mcJmG.png . Think I may just save my pennies :) and go for a new ATI card.
Just strange as it's only happened since I moved to Core i5 but I tried an old 7800GT and that worked just fine.
Played about 10 mintues of L4D and the highest temperature it got upto was around 61. Didn't think that was too hot for a GPU?

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_37 Is what I do and just dump it into System32.. not sure if it's the 'correct' way of doing things though.
Hey,
I just completed upgrading my system with a Core i5, MSI P55-GD65, Patriot 4GB. When I try to run any games like L4D, Company of Heroes or the recently installed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising I start to get artifacts in the game.
Like in L4D some of the crashed humvees appeared...
