Connecting 2 computers together via USB type-C table?

The only problem with gigabit ethernet is that 350GB would take an hour minimum at full speed (which it probably won't do if there are lots of files). An external USB-C caddy is faster, but you're creating another step (or another backup?). USB's generally for connecting peripherals, but back...

Combi Boiler coming on when cold water tap is run

I had a similar issue when I drained my system a few years ago. It turned out to be a dead leg on the hot water going to the washing machine (the machine only uses cold). I bled the dead leg until water started coming through again and that fixed it.

    New laptop fresh install

You don't need to use Rufus. Download and run the media creation tool to create a bootable USB stick (it'll wipe the stick though): https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 You don't need to disable secure boot. I would normally secure erase the drive first, but if you...

Draytek critical firmware update / remote code execution vulnerability, alert notice

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty sure I'm on their mailing list, but haven't seen anything about this. It even affects SSL VPNs - nasty!

    Unblocking outside drain

Something like this might work? Rothenberger Pipe & Drain Cleaning Coil 1.32m | Drain Cleaning Tools | Screwfix.com I don't think it's designed for outside though.

    Door Adjustment

Mine had a round plastic cap over the hinge that you could prise out. Under that was a wheel that you can rotate with an allen key to alter how the door sits. I was luck that I was able to find a model number and google some instructions.

How to mount a vertical PDU to a rack?

You'd put a few PDUs in. Also, you can have 12 sockets using C13 rather than UK sockets.

Setting up business PC’s with office 355?

You could select "domain join" instead during the Windows first time setup. That'd create a local user on the PC rather than using a Microsoft account. I don't like the way they expect everyone to want to have a Microsoft account. Also, a Microsoft account is different from a O365 account -...

    Nvme dead after removing heatsink!

I have with a stick of RAM. It had tall manufacturer fitted heatsinks that would have blocked my CPU heatsink, so I tried to prise them off. I could hear the tearing noise as the BGA (Ball Grid Array) package came off with the heatsink. I wasn't too bothered as they were old 2nd hand sticks...

Dell vs HP Server Gen 9

I don't think you'll get much for £600. I'd spend around that on a business PC (and then Office Home and Business on-top) - never-mind a server. Also, I can't help on HP vs Dell as I've only bought Dell servers for the past 20 years. If you want console access then you'll need a full iDrac...

Alienwear 15 r3 and changing boot order

Hold shift down and restart from Windows. It should give you an option to boot into your BIOS/UEFI settings.

Trying to reinstall an old laptop, losing my hair trying to find a boot driver.

I'm guessing you're stuck at the Windows installation storage driver screen too. It must be in AHCI or RAID mode. Looked up the model and it's 4th generation Intel and with this chipset: Intel QM87 Chipset Product Specifications Going by the HP Support website it's this RST driver...

    Setting up Kyocera printers

I couldn't see a M5512cdw, but I can see a M5521cdw: Product Support & Downloads | Kyocera (kyoceradocumentsolutions.co.uk) I would put the printer on a static IP high up in the range, e.g. 192.168.1.201, mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway your router, DNS your router It needs to be high up in...

    RDS GW+RDP vs VPN RDP

The RDP traffic should be encrypted end-to-end, but also it'll be wrapped again between the client and the RDS Gateway using HTTPS. You'd have the option of disabling the weaker protocols/cyphers on the Gateway. The only problem with the default RDS web/gateway setup is that there's nothing...

    Serious Server 2012 R2 issues

I wonder if Windows is on the SSD, it isn't set up as RAID and has a fault. You could try cloning it to another SSD using Reflect. The boot, Windows and any data should all be on RAID if it's to be fault tolerant though (as well as having backups to something you can take off-site).

    Serious Server 2012 R2 issues

If it's RAID1 (mirroring) via hardware, then it should pause on bootup to say one of the drives has failed, but it will continue to boot from the healthy drive. Not sure what it'd do with software RAID (I always use a RAID Host Bus Adaptor usually with hot-plug drives). You could try...

    Urgent help - 2012 R2 connecting to Windows 10

Yup, disable DHCP on the router and use the Microsoft one because it'll have more features. Also, the Microsoft DHCP server integrates with the DNS service and dynamically adds records for your PCs. You exclude the lower and higher IPs from the DHCP pool (e.g. .1-49 and 200-254). Then...

    Urgent help - 2012 R2 connecting to Windows 10

Good stuff. DNS underpins Active Directory. For instance, it's how the PCs find an AD domain controller to log in. Your PCs shouldn't have any other DNS servers set (e.g. don't have external DNS servers that don't hold info about your AD domain). Also, you should be using DHCP on the...

    Urgent help - 2012 R2 connecting to Windows 10

Long shot, but make sure the "DNS Client" service is set to Automatic and is started on the PC. Also, as Throrik says, make sure the primary DNS of the network card is set to the IP of your "server". I always do the manual domain join via "This PC, properties, etc.". Make sure your PCs are...

Sporadic external DNS issues on domain machines

You're having problems with the DNS forwarders configured on the DCs running DNS? I would try a process of elimination if possible, e.g. try nslookup on a laptop directly connected to your external network on a public IP, e.g. bypassing your firewall temporarily. It's not recommended to leave...
