What Mobile App Dev Tools Are There?

You must have not given Swift a chance, Swift is a fantastic language. Don't knock it until you have given something a good chance. (Yes I've worked in c# a while ago so I have room to compare)

    Writing tests for legacy code

This. By wrapping up the legacy code and exposing a new interface it would allow you to write tests for that new interface and then change the underlying legacy code later.

*** Official Hyperoptic Discussion Thread ***

FYI I just had the installation completed and it was pretty quick, but I would keep some paint handy as there are now marks all over the walls around where the cable has been installed.

Well what would you say the latency difference between wired, wifi and power line is? If there isn't a whole lot in it then I might as well just stick to the wifi.

See the "I get the first year free" bit. But yes I realise that the power line option isn't a great idea, but it's the latency that I'm trying to battle here rather than the speed itself which is why it's still an option.

*** Official Hyperoptic Discussion Thread ***

I'm currently waiting for the engineer to come and install Hyperopic to my flat but I had a bit of a networking question; As it currently stands I have my (sky) router located in the lounge and then all of my consoles etc connected via ethernet to it. Ideally I would like to replicate this with...

SSD and RAM upgrade for 2011 MBP

I have an M4 in mine also (Early 2011 15"), great drive and perfect for that machine. Unfortunately the machine itself is now slowly dieing so I'll be getting a replacement when they do the next refresh (hopefully sooner rather than later).

php/js results differ on mobile device

Works fine for me on my iPhone 6. Returns a value of 980 which is the width of the phone in pixels (both for the readout and pressing the button).

    iOS Development

I will tell u now, you won't be making £500 a day a year down the line, maybe 3 or 4, but not one, and only in London. A junior level iOS developer would be looking to get a 25-32k (depending on the part of the country you are in) a year in a perm position, there aren't very many contract...

Looking for a company or developer to create a very basic app.

The app sounds like the code test we send out to applicants but we ask them to search the iTunes API, should only take a few hours to make the app itself as it 'sounds' very basic. The big question here is the data. You say you have a database online but is it accessible though some kind of API...

    Any IOS9 App devs here?

Give Ray Wenderlich a try for a month and see how you find it, there are videos from beginner to moderate so you should be able to get a bit of a taster to see if it's something you want to pursue. http://www.raywenderlich.com/video-tutorials FYI: I've been an iOS dev for the past 5 years...

    WWDC 2015

Companies have to prepare for these things somehow, stuff doesn't just magically work on launch without anyone knowing about it :)

I'm pretty sure I would be hunted down and shot if I did! Lets just say that 2 months is being very conservative.

Newbie Web Designer - 33 & starting from scratch - Need Advice

I will warn you that it's not the easiest time to be getting into iOS development at the moment, Swift is still very new and evolving all of the time, and there are many years worth of Objective-C codebases that are still being used and developed. You can still do most stuff in Swift, but there...

@ Tunney Native .svg support would indeed be very welcome, the PDF solution they have now is ok for some situations but has it's problems. It's very frustrating to know exactly when it's coming but not be able to say anything due to NDA :S

Newbie Web Designer - 33 & starting from scratch - Need Advice

Good to see people getting into this line of work after teaching themselves. I spent 9 years in the staircase industry and then changed to iOS development, a few years later I'm now the principal developer of a large team overseeing multiple projects in one of the biggest digital agencies in...
