yea, sorry for posting in the wrong place, realised and moved it as best i could!
I wanted to confirm it was faulty ram as best i could before i tried to fault find on 8 memory modules, however like you say i might as well do it a kit of 4 at a time as i'd have to RMA the whole kit anyway...
I have just got the above board and i just seem to have issue after issue!:
Booting UEFI, didn't realise i had to use my DvD drive with the UEFI option for windows 7 to install properly, using the standard option of "B4" or whatever SATA port caused corruption,

i talked to my two mates who were looking and they both want to upgrade down the line so i went for:

(+ case fans)
£64.10 XFX Pro 650W Core Edition PSU
£99.10...
With cases I prefer the psu at the bottom and vent in the top style.
Psu wise I want to leave head room for a 5850/5970 type of gfx card if a new game comes out in a year and the 5770 doesn't cut it, £10-20 more now on a psu leaves room for that?

do the more expensive components make much difference? or am i just wasting £100 ish for limited gain in the performance areas i want,
after a fair bit of discussion here i settled on the i5 build below, however its a fair bit over budget, where the phenom i've just specced up isn't, suggestions on the below would be great :)
