Build critique - based on RX580

What would you suggest instead? On the cooler side, I've seen the Ventroo V5 recommended elsewhere - any thoughts on that vs. the Alpenfohn?

Build critique - based on RX580

Cheers for that. I think I'm sold on a Z690, someone else has pointed me towards the slightly cheaper Gigabyte - is that much of a compromise? Crucial SSD makes sense, cheers. I'm not quite sold on the looks of the 4000X. Although there's really not much in it. Thanks for the cooler...

Build critique - based on RX580

A couple of years ago I picked up an 8GB RX580 to tide me over after my last GPU died. Little did I know then that 2 years later I'd be clinging onto it for dear life as GPU prices went nuts. Anyway. I'm looking to replace my 12-ish year old build (in my sig) but keep the RX580. If things...

    Display issues

Bump? I'm not averse to a second hand GPU if that could be the candidate...side question, what would £50-£100 get me used?

    Display issues

Recently I've had a mix of different issues and I'm trying to work out the candidate. My monitor is a Benq GW2765-HT, GPU a GTX 570 and they're connected by DP cable. Max res for the monitor is a 2560x1440. I've been having a flickering display for awhile which I can't sort - I've replaced the...

PoE switch for AP & IP cameras

Handy to know. I prefer the two switch idea for convenience - I can have the PoE switch at the point that the external ethernet enters the room (easiest access for the camera feeds) but then only run a single cable across the room to the AV gear switch. And noise is a very good point. Thanks for...

PoE switch for AP & IP cameras

It's the Gen2 AC-Lite, but thanks for mentioning - I wouldn't have even considered it otherwise. Switch wise I fundamentally agree. I'm just shuddering at the cost - it looks like £150 for a 16 port PoE switch. Even buying a new 8 port PoE and an 8 port non-PoE switch works out significantly...

PoE switch for AP & IP cameras

I'm looking for a switch to try and pull together some gear I'm already using along with some additions I'd like to make. Internally I've got a Unifi AC Lite PoE along with 4 non-PoE ethernet devices (PC/streamer/AVR/TV.) This is currently handled by a TP Link SG1005D 5 port switch. The AVR was...

Display flickering & PC not turning back on post-hibernate

Will give that a go, thanks.

Display flickering & PC not turning back on post-hibernate

So far, no sleep issues. Anyone got any advice on the display flickering at 1440p over DisplayPort?

Display flickering & PC not turning back on post-hibernate

I've turned off hybrid sleep in Windows, will see if that sorts it and if not I'll go digging around in BIOS (don't be surprised if I ask for more advice if I do though.) Thanks.

Display flickering & PC not turning back on post-hibernate

I'm hoping for some help with a couple of issues. The first is that my monitor has started flickering now that I'm running it in 2560x1440. Previous I had it at 1920x1080 when connected by HDMI, but on connecting it by DisplayPort cable it set itself to 2560x1440 (something I'm happy to keep.)...

    Upgrade to 4K gaming

I recognise that without a bigger budget than I have I'm not going to get everything - but for casual 4K use, would I get away with an 8700 and 1080? My main display will be 1440p, the big TV will get occasional use - but having messed around with a Steam Link and Rocket League etc I wouldn't...

    Upgrade to 4K gaming

Figures. What would you suggest as the minimum I'd get away with CPU wise?

    Upgrade to 4K gaming

I'm okay with buying the GPU last if that's a sensible path. I just don't know what else I should be upgrading and what to though; I tend to learn what I need to know when I build a system, then when I come back years later to upgrade again my knowledge is basically nil.

    Upgrade to 4K gaming

I've got the following system and frankly it can't keep up anymore, much as it's lasted me well in the 7 years since I built it: AMD Phenom II X4 955 [email protected] 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 RAM Geforce GTX 570 Samsung EVO 850 2GB SSD Corsair TX-650W PSU Cooling is a Titan Fenrir Evo, plus...

    Where did my sound go?

Sorry, should have replied sooner. I installed the Realtek drivers for my mobo (dated 2012 IIRC) and it's working again. Windows does still seem like the most likely culprit but I've got sound at least now.

    Where did my sound go?

The last driver update for my motherboard was released in 2012 (it's the one in my sig.) There was a Realtek driver for it so I've installed that and I've got sound - albeit it crackles when I adjust volume on the headphones. Windows update break a driver maybe? I didn't have Realtek...
