Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

For the money it is criminal. I would seriously consider it as an option when extras arrive now that the Group Buy has finished. But again you do have to then factor in all the other parts which may push up your budget. TKD are planning next to do a TKL and then after that a 65% from memory.

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

If you want something with a bit more modability then keychron would by my choice (if you are looking for a pre-built) then go for something like a K2 Pro (assuming 75% is the form factor you are after) If you want something with all the bells and whistles as a pre-built and has been regarded...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

When you say customization are we purely talking about lighting effects or other customization such as layers, actual keyboard mods etc? Also what is the kind of budget we are talking here?

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

The market has certainly cooled off and maybe we have gone from one extreme to the other in the "second hand market" where we now have plenty of options in stock and with GMK now pushing out like 4 sets a week it seems they are finally catching up on all those backlogged sets. So all those...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

New Nixies, I plan to spring swap, lube, dye the top housings and then possibly film if they need it.

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Well has been a while since I posted, but have been lurking have loved seeing some of the updates that have been occurring. Well I have had a number of things arrive over the last couple of weeks including artisans, plates, switches and key sets. But here is some eye candy for you of some...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

There will be extras available for both units (zoom75 and QK80) so there is always a chance to get one after the GB's fulfill. Black caps should look fine on a grey board.

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

I think it maybe more that you are probably missing the tactile bump which you don't get with a linear switch, so you are expecting that little bit of extra feedback from the switch. If you are happy with the oil kings and it is just that they feel too light then you might want to try spring...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

It isn't as scary as people think it is. I was the same when I did my first board (back in late 2021) and I had the added headache of getting the wrong sized solder so had to be extra patient due to it being a touch thicker than standard. It is a very satisfying feeling when you have done it...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Yep I think some people think I have lost mine (I do as well when I see everything that I am still waiting for) - although I wonder if I had any in the first place. The Zoom75 indeed looks like a lovely bit of kit and seems to have improved the design from earlier models, will be interesting...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Nice. Can't wait to see it. The ZoomTKL was certainly on my list of units to try at some point but sadly the first version only supported ANSI plus I am trying to keep my collection relatively small if I can. Still waiting on 4 boards to hopefully arrive this month so that should be a fun build...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

For what it is the board is lovely and looks great, I probably would have jumped on it previously but am trying to be a little more selective now with purchases. I have specific boards in mind now to round out my little collection. The coffee colour was super nice for that QK80 but I am sure...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

So finally got some pics of the various boards/artisans that I have, from a photography friend of mine who has done an outstanding job. (I have to drop off a few more for him to do for me. Will give him a break for a bit before I do drop off more items. ) So enjoy. https://imgur.com/a/obShtFT...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Yes I use 205g0 for linears and then 205g2 for stabs (although can use g0 for stabs at a push) Although I am not a tactile person you could try BBN Tactile, KNC Green Jackets, Neapolitans come to mind right now. But the best thing to do is get a sample pack of say 10/20 switches of tactiles...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

So a few things that have arrived of the past couple of weeks: Artisans: Keypora GB Deft Pacamara by Della Key GB (LoL Worlds Edition) Pyga Wooly by Della Key GMK Maestro Della by Della Key Two out of my three Matrix Labs 8XV3.0 Top (White Flash/Pink Coating/Brass Upgraded...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Its not that the stabs will interfere with the switches but more the o-ring. So I would suggest using TX Stabs (the newest version) - based on my understanding. Maybe worth hitting up MKUK Discord for more info on it. There is a UK keeb store that now has a partnership with CannonKeys to...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

I mean there are a number of options available for you. If you aren't too fussed about ANSI vs ISO layout then the Monokei Standard is a great entry level TKL at £150 for everything I think it is an absolute steal if you are looking to get into the hobby. Obviously this isn't to discount the...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Yeah lubing is an art form and takes time. I feel I am getting better every time. I think the true test is that I have just built a board for a friend and they are amazed at how well the switches i did form them (Korbs) turned out and feel. So hopefully means I am doing a good job. If you are...

Well I fell down the custom keyboard world.

Yes it can get fairly pricey but there are so many boards in the custom space to suit any budget. I guess the question is what size keyboard are you looking for and what is your total budget? Although a lot of the custom keebs are done via a group buy model. The vendors have been working on...
