New build for 3D art, game dev, and gaming

I spend most my time in ZBrush which is CPU only. I don't do that much with CUDA, I just need it for when I need it, if you know what I mean. But I am also getting more into doing game dev stuff, so the GPU will also get used for rendering game engine viewports and such. Stepping down to the i7...

New build for 3D art, game dev, and gaming

Thanks. That's definitely a tempting looking alternative. I was leaning heavy on the CPU 'cause I spend a lot of time in ZBrush, but the Ti would be a lot nicer in other places and for gaming. Hard choice. I don't really work with video much so I don't think the encoder matters. I should have...

New build for 3D art, game dev, and gaming

I am looking to build a new desktop for 3D art, game dev, and gaming. I've been out of the desktop game for a while so might be missing some nuances... My monitor is a 3440x1440 ultra wide and I'll be using the 2TB 980 pro that's in my laptop. CPU I'm thinking the 7950x for all the cores and...

    Thunderbolt Connection Dropping Win 10

Think I've fixed it? I noticed there was a information entry in event viewer that seemed to pop up just before the TB would drop. It said: "The time provider 'VMICTimeProvider' has indicated that the current hardware and operating environment is not supported and has stopped. This behaviour is...

    Thunderbolt Connection Dropping Win 10

So the energy server thing is apparently connected to the intel driver update program so I tried uninstalling that and I don't get the error but it's still dropping every 30 minutes. So guess the error is caused by the drop rather than the drop being caused by the error.

    Thunderbolt Connection Dropping Win 10

I've had this problem for a while where when I'm playing games my thunderbolt dock regularly drops connection and then reconnects. If I'm just doing regular desktop stuff it doesn't do it. Only when its been in a game for a while, so it seems somewhat based on the system being underload. For...

What are these grey blocks on the GPU

That's what I've read else where online too. Probably not a problem then as is fairly small and still just seeing ferrite under it.

What are these grey blocks on the GPU

Thanks! Would a chip on one be likely to cause problems? I know the pic is a bit out of focus but it's the bottom left corner of the top one that's damaged.

What are these grey blocks on the GPU

What are the grey blocks labelled R22? I have a chipped one on a faulty graphics card, I'm wondering it is replaceable?

Computer stuck on static IP causing problems?

It takes 192.168.1.3 I don't know why it would cause a problem, everything else is on dynamic so there shouldn't really be any conflicts. It's just the only irregularity I've got to go on. When we first plugged it into the router, it wouldn't connect, just did a windows trouble shoot on it...

Computer stuck on static IP causing problems?

Hey, so my room mate just got his PC shipped over from his old place and as soon as we connected it to the network we started getting problems with other stuff dropping out, trouble shooting them says it's an IP problem. One thing I've noticed in the router settings is that his PC is tagged as...

    4K laptop screens: experiences, opinions?

DSR might be alright in games (I didn't try it) but certainly not sold on it as a desktop screen-space solution. I actually have the perfect test bed, a 1080p and 1440p right here so I tried it out and the difference between the 1440p and the 1080p with DSR is absolutely night and day, the 1080p...

    4K laptop screens: experiences, opinions?

I've actually just found a version of what I wanted with a 1440p option, only thing is that it's a 120hz tn rather than IPS. Been using IPS for so long need to figure out if I could live with TN viewing angles, will have to make a trip to a shop and actually try out some different screen...

    4K laptop screens: experiences, opinions?

Hello I was hoping anyone who's had experience using laptops with 4k screens would be able to help me out. I'm looking to get a new high end laptop and I'm torn between the choice of 1080p and 4k. 1080p seems a little lacklustre for a brand new machine but 4K seems demanding to run and not...

Laptop for Gaming and 3D £2000~?

Ah nice, will look into that. Edit: I'm sufficiently down the rabbit hole now, found a number of UK re-sellers for laptops with proper i7 6700's.

Laptop for Gaming and 3D £2000~?

That does look good, just a bit put off by these laptop CPU speeds. Are Origin really the only ones packing desktop cpus?

Laptop for Gaming and 3D £2000~?

Hello, I'm looking to ditch my desktop and get a laptop as I am moving in with a friend abroad in the new year and want to be mobile. I've never owned a laptop so I would appreciate some suggestions. I work as a freelance 3D artist, mostly with ZBrush, which is very CPU and RAM dependant but I...

Best way to ship a desktop?

Yeah, I just looked there because that's how my mate moved his stuff originally. His stuff arrived alright but I can't take the risk of sending it uninsured as I need it for work. Buying a new one would be great but I can't really afford to do that at the moment. Dismantling it and just...

Best way to ship a desktop?

I'm thinking about moving in with a friend who's currently living in Malta and I'm wandering what the best way to go about moving my desktop would be? I briefly looked on places like parcel monkey but they won't insure computers.

    Question about powerline adapter speeds

Ah, didn't know about the 100 each way thing. yeah that makes me more comfortable knowing I'm getting 70% out of the current ones. Although come to think of it I think they only have 100mb ports anyway so that makes a lot of sense. I'm torn between wifi and homeplugs. My router doesn't have ac...
