i think this may have been covered before but after looking i can't find the definative answer.
my system will boot so far then go quiet for a few secs then boot again. let me explain further when i say boot it boots to the extent of a signal to the monitor but nothing showing then goes quiet...

i have a drive erase program but am a bit confused about the recovery disc.
i am running windows 7 and when i put recovery disc in the help section i get several choices.
system repair disc
system image disc
return windows to original settings (...
i use it for internet banking, credit card transactions, and other information none of which i would like to get into the wrong hands
also yes i would reformat and do a full install but as i said i do not have the installation disc i assume its done by licence by the manufacturers they dont...
thanks for that the problem would be that a.. it would void the warranty and b...as the laptop has a sticker on the bottom with the serial number for the o/s i think if i was to load a different copy i would have to re-register it
i recently bought a laptop from a well known high street shop now i wish to get rid of it for something else.
the laptop didnt come with an installation disc for windows7 but the HDD has 2 partitions on it one containing a factory restore program.
how can i make sure the HDD is erased of all...
you could probably guess my next questions lol
how do you add another partition to the HDD
how do you set it up so the o/s is got from 1 of the partitions and the rest of the apps etc comes from the 2nd partition?

thanks i really dont want to goto the extra expense of a SSD but i have seen on another thread that there is advantages of having 1 HDD for the o/s and another for other stuff. is there any benefits to doing this?
i've just done a check on my pc's performance with the windows7 performance monitor and it says most of my scores are above 7.5 apart from
data transfer rate which is 5.5.
my question is, is there any way of improving on this figure to bring it inline with the others i.e above 7.5. ive done...
i mainly want it for use with the blueray player i have with it . might have a bit of a problem sorting out how to connect the surround sound speaker system as the sound card has individual inputs for each speaker and the surround system has individal inputs as well.
i have a gigabyte ex58-ud5 mobo, which according to the instructions is already set for HD sound.is there any point in me adding a xonar d2x sound card. will i notice any difference, or would it be a waste of money?
had a look nothing in my manual that i can see.the only thing i can think is there must have been something enabled/disabled in the bios on the old board which isnt the case on the new one. as i can't look in the bios of the old board anymore i'm stumped. again any ideas guys?
