Well I solved the problem... I was posting my solution. The problem was that the user had managed to install windows twice, but not fully completed the overwriting version. It creates lot's of problems and they hadn't told me they had attempted to do this.

I happen to know that you can pick up a 3770K from a famous auction site for £240 brand spanking new. I would have gone for that with a Z77 if I hadn't stumbled across a very cheap 2600k from a friend.

I got a little tilted by the test results I saw and so went with the kingston HyperX beast (dirt cheap for 8Gb atm on OCUK).

I did some reading oxide and it seems as though (i'm really not sure of the reason though) the Ballistix doesn't perform as well as the HyperX. The lower timings and overclock headroom still don't help it to better the hyperX.

Lol, I would try cleaning some other shelves to see if you can turn up anything else. A 3770k would be a handy find! As long as the ram isn't corrupt you should be fine! Or maybe you could stick it back on the shelf and see if the hardware gods exchange it for something better. :)

Like always. If you have the cash, then do it. You will notice a slight improvement. If you would be tight on cash or have better things to spend it on, do that instead, you can hold out on a CPU for a little bit longer. The Q9550 was a beast, and at 3.85 it's going well.
