Apple have replaced parts on my 2 and a half year old macbook before, they're usually pretty good about it (especially if you mention it was a dangerous fault like when my charger melted :P)

If you're going MBP then wait a month or so if you can. You'll be able to pick up and old one for cheap or get the new spec'd one

Yep do some troubleshooting with different types of cables. At least you know the screen isn't faulty on DVI input

Yeah, tbh you're a bit of a poser if you choose one over the top of the range 13" MBP considering prices. Unless you REALLY need the weight savings etc. The MBP is much better
