    Which NAS HDD

i recently have some reds, and i have had some WD greens for years, can't say i can tell any difference between them all, nas is only used for sharing video / music about the network, so probably spun down 99% of the time if it was going to be accessed 12 hours a day with higher read / writes i...

    First HTPC thoughts/advice

used to have that exact TV tuner card myself, been using an athlon 5350 onboard graphics good enough for steam streaming @ 1080p 60fps, whilst recording two HD channels at the same time and sending a recorded program to a xbox360 with zero hiccup to any of them. had a lot more success with a HD...

Wi-Fi Alliance Approves New 802.11ah Standard

i have 2 access points at either end of the house and find wifi stability / connection speeds as a whole are a lot faster, with better pings compared to when i had a single access point in the centre

currently my network has one cat 6 ethernet line into the corner of a room where i can get Antenna for over the air broadcast tv, at the moment i have a single HD homerun which has a 10/100 port, i am shortly getting a second one to enable me to have 4 tuners instead of two, short question...

    HTPC build #2

i found the AI suite to be quite accurate, along with HW monitor and as for the 60fps 1080p on onboard graphics, it runs fine with a tiny tiny stutter every min or so, overclocking ever so slightly would probably sort that [have read about people hitting 2.5ghz on them easily but haven't...

    HTPC build #2

i have the same CPU with an asus board in an ML03 for my HTPC, currently using ARCTIC Apline M1 Passive cpu cooler, very cheap and just about fits inside my case, max temp i could get it to was 51c, there are no fans in the case, its 100% passive[the mesh just above the cpu will help a lot with...

New Router suggestions £50? Is it possible?

if you have been with them for 5 years make a call, they will probably send you a new one, usually free of charge if you mention moving to another company

    fancy router worth it?

a more modern router would more likely have better QOS than the plusnet router, if that even has QOS, which would help in a gaming environment if there are other net applications going on about the network

Should I add another powerline adaptor for Steam Link?

powerline would be better than wifi, the device only has a fast Ethernet port and many of the newer fast powerlines can do over that

NAS - Current Setup vs Pi2

using pi2 as a client = yes brilliant, hides behind the TV don't even know its there as a server, i wouldn't personally, for not much more you can get a much better nas box with 10x the transfer rates

Talk Talk Fibre Large...good to go?

been with talk talk myself for a few years now, so far not a single complaint i originally went for the 76mb package because when i had Virgin media i would get throttled / not be able to view youtube properly due to their terrible cache server at peak, however i have since 'downgraded' to 36mb...

    Graphics card broken?

you could maybe fix it by turning down the memory speed, i have an 8800gtx still going strong at about 150mhz less and counting on the memory, will at least tide you over until you decide on a graphics card

Spec me a router for home use

what about the superhub don't you like, is it just the wifi coverage? why not disable the wifi and pickup an access point instead? you will get a lot more for your money, so to speak. splitting up my setup at home was the best thing i have done. Router -> switch -> Access point

    ???

considered an AM1 5350 + gpu ? my htpc has a 5350 + GT730 and is seeming unstoppable and uses such little power, entire thing is passive. edit: granted it won't be pumping out ultra 4K graphics, it can play a surprising amount on low-med with older games at high
