I am in the same situation as well - I just bought a S27A950 and wonder whether I should get the MSI GTX580 1.5gb lightning edition or get 2x MSI Twin Froz III 6950 2GB if I want to max out at 1080p 120hz
Going to build a new pc mainly for gaming and spreadsheet work/general web browsing. I want something quiet hence the case - wont be overclocking so dont think temp is going to be an issue.
The only question I have - is the GPU good enough or should I go for something more beefy? I play...
I am going to build a new rig (I am using sony Vaio Z13 at the moment which plays most games okay at mid settings). I supposed I can stretch my budget a little and go for the GTX 5xx or HD 69xx - I am leaning towards GTX 570 at the moment.
cmndr has a good point there - looks like I am going...
hmm.. I am really tempted by the idea of playing games on a 30"..
What sort of GPU would I need if I want to play most of the latest games at ultra settings (I play strategy/RPG games mainly - SC2, Civ 5 etc and WoW).
I supposed I would need to pair that CPU with i7 sandy bridge as well?
A mate of mine is selling me his U3011 for about 750 quid (he is moving overseas) - so that's a pretty good deal on its own.
Given that I am thinking of building my new rig around my display - I am just wondering whether I should go for U3011 or wait for the new Samsung SA 950 27" (this new...

Curious to know how would the 5770 with the new driver stand against the 4850?
The price of 4850 is around £80 at the moment (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-007-HS), wouldn't the 4850 in crossfire run faster than a single 5770 which cost about £130?
been thinking about this - would AM3 socket offer a better potential upgrade path than i5 at this point in time given that socket 1156 is pretty much a dead socket?
955 BE seems to do the trick for my mate for gaming, although the overall performance per £ of 955 is not as good as i5 750...
Sorry I meant 1600x1050!
I spoke to him and he said he can bring his budget up to £700. He is thinking of overclocking as well.
One question - would i5 750 be a better choice than 955 BE for pure gaming at that res?
A mate is looking for a pc for gaming at 1600x1080 res.
He has a Antec P180 case, DVD/RW and Cosair HX 520W Modular power supply already from his 5yr old pc. He also has a 20" monitor.
His budget is around £650.
thanks!
Thats interesting comments given that I have seen most people recommending H50-1.
How about Prolimatech Mega Shadow Performance CPU Cooler? How does that compare to Thermalright Venomous X?
