I actually found Puget's article after the suggestion from @Tetras and they have an updated one for the intel 13th gen. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/13th-gen-intel-core-processors-content-creation-review-2369/#Game_DevVirtual_Production_Unreal_Engine
We were actually looking to...
Hi there, my housemate needs some more horsepower than what is available in their Surface Book so is looking to build a desktop. They are a 3D game artist so are using applications such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Substance Painter, ZBrush & Unreal Engine Editor. I've been told they probably need...
I've actually managed to source a very cheap x570 board so will probably go that route which frees the budget up a bit.
Out of the following which do you think makes most sense?
3080 for ~£700 with a 5600x for ~£165
RTX 3070 for ~510 with a 5700x/5800x for ~£230
Obviously the 3080 bundle...
She actually clarified the budget is 1200 including the cost of the parts she already has, so this will be a bit over.
I did think the CPU could have been a bit better though and it does look like the 13600kf is better bang for buck today. The problem is z790 motherboards with wifi are...
Hi there, I haven't been following parts very closely for a while so was looking for some advice for my housemate's new build. It's primarily to be a gaming machine & she enjoys fromsoft games (Dark Souls, Elden Ring etc). She already has a case, some RAM & a 4k monitor but needs the other...
Just got back from a walk and it looks like it's done it again while I was out. There's a couple of interesting sounding events in the log, including a kernal power critical error:
58 Copies of the below Warning.
The next warning is from 13:58:11 so before the crash if the 15:04:43 error...
My old motherboard was totally fine but I hadn't ruled it out. It would be really annoying to be stuck with ram at stock though.
Is it likely to be this if it shuts down even while I'm using the PC?
So I've recently put together a new build
Case: Ncase M1
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-i Gaming
CPU: 3700x
GPU: RTX 3080
RAM: Team Group 8Pack Edition 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHz set to XMP
PSU: Tried Silverstone SX650g (returned) and Corsair SF750 (current)
The above build...
+1 Found this was the issue on my card as well. Turning off broadcast reduced the clock from 1740 to 210 Mhz. Maybe that's something for NVDA to look at in future BIOS driver updates, though idk how computationally expensive broadcast is.
The Ncase M1 isn't a sandwich style, it's just that the Ventus is too long to fit in, something I didn't know before ordering thanks to Nvidia ending the embargo so late and I can't order anything else without going to the back of a queue.
It lasted less than 10 seconds. Unfortunately I already have had a 3080 Ventus delivered from OCUK... which won't fit in my Ncase M1. This was my last chance to get a FE before the end of my return window :-(
Well my corsair HX 850W which I bought in June 2011 just went pop when I switched it on at the wall this morning. So... that long?
It's really annoying actually as I'm planning to move to a SFF case soon but the corsair SF 750 is out of stock everywhere so now I'm stuck unless I buy a PSU only...
So with these new chips the best value for money option for desktop is perhaps still Zen 2 with the best CPU you can buy being Zen 3 for a premium price. That doesn't sound like dropping the ball to me given intel doesn't seem like a sensible option now for anybody.
There's no way in hell MSI didn't know this was happening. Given the pressure from retailers and Nvidia they'd be watching their stock like a hawk right now.
Not only did MSI decide to scalp new customers on eBay, they did it while customers on sites like OCUK (like myself) have already paid...
