So tell me on your keyless go mechanisms

The main thing manufacturers have done is introduce "sleepy keys". So they stop broadcasting a signal when they haven't moved for 30s. The idea being that you get home put your keys down and then the signal stops because they are not moving. There is then nothing to relay.

    Massive Car insurance costs?

I was visiting friends in Norway for New Year, they were shocked how our car insurance works. They just insure the car, anyone with a valid licence can drive it, the only variables are the car itself and the mileage. Even most modifications need no declaration, only things that effect their...

OcUK HQ Motors Meet Take 4 - Cars, Computers & More - Saturday 25th May 2024

Cars & Computers at the same meet. I am very tempted, but it's 205 miles away for me.

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

Not in the focus. The mk4 Focus had the revised chain cam engine from day 1. So all Mk4 2018 onwards. The fiesta has a changeover, although all mHEVs are chain. I believe all Puma are also chain. But Focus is 100% chain if it’s a mk4 onwards.

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

They must be talking about the oil pump belt then. But it's the first I've heard of it causing an issue. The revised engines should be more reliable with a timing chain as the oil pump belt isn't under as much strain. Had it been serviced per schedule with the correct oil? Usually the wet cam...

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

2020 Focus doesn't have the wet cam belt, it has a timing chain. The oil pump belt is internal, but that isn't known to cause issues like the degredation of the wet cam belt on older engines.

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

By the time it blocks the oil strainer it's usually damaged the engine beyond repair.

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

I think the belt manufacturer probably shares some of the blame. They probably oversold the robustness of the solution. Ford isn't the only one to have tried and failed with the wet belts.

Ford Ecoboost 1.0 Cambelt Changes starting to be due @ £1000+

Yes and no. All Mk3 Focus 1.0 are wet belts, all Mk4 Focus 1.0 are timing chain. In the Fiesta it is more complicated. The changeover was 2020 ish, but I haven't seen a definitive build date, it seems to vary a bit depending on model/output. It's easiest to just look under the bonnet as Ford...

Brightness/ alignment of new cars/ LEDS head lamps

In terms of LEDs, for some reason I seem to find Tesla's the worse of all, even on "dipped" beam the driver's side cluster seems blinding when they are oncoming. But it's not even just LEDs, so many vehicles have such high fronts because of this SUV fad, even when they are halogen they can be...

    Show Us Your Motors!

They're not on sale any more. Only the dregs of stock. Ford stopped making them. Dumbest move they've ever made imo.

    Your bad driving encounters

Had this just the other day, someone pulled out on to a 40 mph road way too close to me and did 20 mph. Nothing behind me. It was either slam on the anchors, or overtake. Fortunately it was clear and I passed them. Why they couldn't just wait another 10s.

    Massive Car insurance costs?

All of the insurers that say "we are not on comparison sites" are lying or massively bending the truth. They are all on comparison sites, just under a different brand. I would only run a quote with one of those companies if their other brand is one of the cheapest, or you are wasting your time...

    Your bad driving encounters

I've driven in Sweden and Norway at night, you really don't want their HGVs flashing you. People on this thread talking about Sun's in the mirrors from normal car headlights, even if they are Bi-Xenon or LED have seen nothing compared to the retina blindness that is a Scandinavian HGV flashing...

    Massive Car insurance costs?

Admiral seem to be the worst for this. Mine went from £339 to £633 with them. A call to say I was leaving (as they turned on auto renew without asking) brought it down to £485, that should have been the renewal quote in the first place. Gone with Chris Knott instead as they worked out cheaper...

    Show Us Your Motors!

Be really interested to know how you find the Mazda with e-Skyactiv X. I have the MK4 Focus ST, but I tend to change cars every few years. I'm just coming up to 4 years with it, the longest I've had a car. Logically I should just keep it, but of all cars a Mazda with the 186 PS e-Skyactiv-X...

    Your bad driving encounters

I'm sure it has been mentioned before in this thread, but there is no such thing as right of way. The highway code says when people should give way and when they have priority, but it gives nobody right of way. Priority is given not taken :) Drive like you expect no-one to give you priority...

£339 last Oct, renewal has come through this year at £634. Best I've found shopping around so far is £502. :(

Carrying a Spare / Space Saver in a Non-Spare Fitted Car

I did this for my Fiesta before a road trip. You can get nice fitted bags to store them in, in the boot.
