Does it not try and initally log on before the log on page opens (and fails) because they're are no credentials to do so. When you enter them this counts as the success. Possibly?

Try reinstalling your network adapter from the device manager.

Did you check the settings for the monitor as per Orcvader's post? Maybe the screen settings have been altered to a value that the monitor does not support. Can you use both monitors (laptop and external) together? Does the machine recognise the 2nd screen once booted into windows?

Fixed. Messed around with the settings on the display despite not touching them in the first place and they have now gone. ;)

Add the URL as a trusted site and set the security level for the zone to low? Does the website definately display as a Local intranet site within the browser and isn't being detected as a Internet site?

Some form of browser based software like 'logmein' would work I guess, although I'm not sure whether Linux is 'officially' supported.
