I always do one if its needed or not. I just prefer knowing exactly what software is on the machine and new pcs/laptop these days are normally spammed with OEM crap.
I only booted it up once with the original setup and I remember it taking longer than I expected it to. With a clean...
I forget what actually came with this laptop as I had a dvd of win7 already and just used that. Hopefully you got a normal win7 cd or recovery version that does not auto install all the OEM stuff again.
Either way, put the dvd in and boot up machine. Quickly check in bios you have boot from...
Well I've been rebuilding, fixing and installing computers for over 15 years, some of that profressionaly. If I didnt recognise a process or couldnt track it down its not needed, although that is irrelevent anyway as a clean install would re-install everything I would need to get going and then...
Yea you can but uninstalling software is never the same as a clean install. There is ALWAYS crap left on that the uninstallers do not remove and this can bog down systems. Also sometimes there can be software hidden away running in the back ground you might miss. When I got the laptop I...
Did some clocking a while back when I first installed the 940xm. Got some good results but the heat was getting out of control and the software used to do it was a pain in the ars3.
Check previous posts for the results.
I use Pakuma Choroka K3i http://www.pakuma.com/products/choroka_k3l.htm
Fits like a glove, is water-resistant and takes a whole load of other crap in it also.
Very well made bag.
I use an OCZ vertex SSD and it runs lovely in this laptop.
You cannot just turn off raid without formatting unfortunately. You will need to do a fresh install.
It that the issue where it cant find a bootable media or some crap? I get that from time to time. Think its to do with having the lan option in the boot list. I tried removing it and saving but it just comes back next boot.
Fan only gets mad when the temps go really high. So stress testing, multithread apps, games that really tax the system etc.
I dont get any high pitched noise from mine. You might want to grease the bearings in the fan and see if that helps out with this noise you're getting.
I put the I7 940XM in mine. Straight swap, no bios update needed and runs fine. Temps go high at 100% load but they never hit the throttle limit (although I recommend using good thermal paste for cpu and gpu.) I also recommend getting a 180w or greater universal laptop PSU (I have the...
The fan noise is fine unless its on full when you're hitting absolute max temps, then its quite loud.
The drives this originally came with (WD Blue) are ****, and I mean awfully ****.
Even if you're playing MMOs you will go mad because they caused every game I played (including MMOs) to pause...
I would'nt overly worry about having the latest drivers for everything. The ones on the website or the ones that come on the install CD will be fine for most of the hardware in this laptop.
Windows update actually does a fairly decent job of getting new driver updates when they come out and...
It doesnt matter which one you remove, windows will let you choose which drive to install to when you get to that. Also remember to choose the new drive as the boot drive from the bios, though :)
