    Hey all,

I'm currently using 360 in conjunction with win 7 64bit mce and divx tech preview. I've also got ac3 filter installed for dts and haali splitter. I need haali installed just to play mkv's.

The problem is that some mkv (x.264 or h.264) work fine while others won't. They play and as soon as the dialogue starts they crash. I can skip through them though.

    Any ideas guys?

Well for anyone that is interested I solved the issue.

I had to remove the subtitle track from the mkv with mkvmerge tool.

Apparently if the subtitle track is there it disables hardware acceleration and that's why the video stutters :)

Seems like a lot of effort just to get it to play properly.

The fact this sort of stuff can be a right PITA is exactly why theres a market for devices like the WDTV. I know I'm considering grabbing one becuase I'd like something small, power efficient, and when you plug in your external HDD, it generally 'just works'.
