I've been running the trial version of the software to try and learn the whole 3d modelling thing, must say quite enjoying it. Problem is my trial is about to expire and I cant afford to pay the full price for the software.

Is there an education license or something like that, you know the whole MS style thing.

Yes there is, Max 7 was available for around £100, not too sure now it's version 8. You can also download GMAX which is totally free iirc, all it lacks is the rendering capabilites which aren't important for learning modelling/texturing :)

Also look at Maya etc, which sometimes offer PLE (personal learning edition) which are available free and can produce limited renders :)

Deffinately get GMAX. Its completely free, and as said its missing some of the Rendering features, and some of the more complex features. It however contains everything you may need to learn modelling and texturing.

I have 1 year left of my max 7 student version, and 2 years left of my max 8 version. They where both £85 I think, but you need to be at uni doing the right kind of course to buy them.
