Well, there's the M61 Vulcan, which is less powerful and used as an AA weapon. The GAU-8 would probably be too big to mount on a tank, and it can't sustain fire for more than a few seconds without overheating. Besides, there wouldn't be much point, as the 120mm cannons used on modern tanks are far more accurate at range and can finish off most tanks in one or two direct hits within 800 metres. The main reason for the GAU-8 having such a high rate of fire is because fixed gun on an aircraft doesn't have the accuracy an MBT's main gun has.

surely it wouldnt, tanks are heavy like 40+ tonnes, aeroplanes are less usually, and they are a lot more fragile in the air.

The recoil wouldn't tip a tank over, although it is sufficient to slow the A-10 down a fair bit in flight

By necessity; if it was too fast, it wouldn't be effective as a ground attack plane.
