"AMD and Intel are going to be bringing out four core processors. Sun has eight cores. Azul? 48 on the way!

Azul plans to bring to market a 48 core Vega 2 processor next year. This chip is meant to be at the heart of massively parallel computers, and features 812 million transistors using a 90nm process, manufactured by TMSC. Azul plans to market server platforms with up to 768 way mult-processing with 768 gigabytes of memory.Azul has an established track record for highly parallel chips; the 24 core Vega processor is currently available for sale. The Vega is also manufactured by TMSC, and is fabricated on a 130nm process. Currently, 384 way serevers with up to 256GB of memory are available from Azul using their Vega 24 core processor.Azul has not released the clock speed and power dissapation of the Vega 2 other than to say it will improve over the performance per watt of the current Vega."

i'l make a "realistic" estimate that these linkup chips will be on the motherboard rather than the cpu, because the other cores will take up CPU space.. unless they jump to 65nm process soon like intel...

if they do end up on the chip i expect the launch price to be £900
