the 2 reviews on overclockers for the 4930k say they got to 4.9, which sems amazing to me. Do overclockers get a pick of chips over say mass retailers like amazon? anyone buy from overclockers? please let me know what overcloks you are getting. Im water cooled btw. So want to push this into 1.4v land.

If it's a retail box, then no, afaik the CPU will be just as good as any other retail CPU bought from elsewhere.

With my 4930K from OCUK, I struggled for a long while to get 4.4GHz (even now I'm still having stability issues in certain stress tests at 1.365vcore, that I'm tempted to just pack it in, sell it and buy a new chip and hope for the best). The thing just does not like anything higher. Though, from what I'm told, I probably have one of the worst 4930K's around.

As always, it is silicon lottery.

EDIT: To add to that: I also had a 3770K from OCUK that did a wicked 4.8GHz at a nice 1.28V, all bench stable. A friend bought the same CPU at the time from OCUK and couldn't get 4.2GHz without 1.3V. Point is, it doesn't matter where you purchase, the lottery applies everywhere.

True, I've heard of people able to get to 4.4 at like 1.28- and some needing 1.44.

Under the hot sun.
It all depends.

My 4820K managed fine at 5000 with 1.4v, (retail, from OCUK) while I know others are struggling to pass 4600.

Please take into consideration that 4930K is 50% bigger chip, it runs hotter and at 1.4v you might not be able to hit 4900.

However a 6 core 4930K at 4800 is still pretty impressive.
