having looked, the cupra is IG16, but as i don't live in the UK i didn't know.
although apparently IG isn't *that* much of a factor?

Yeah well worth a shot. IGs depend on the insurer really - some i've phoned ignore them completely, others you can pretty much predict the quote from the grouping.

Pity that his budget doesn't stretch to £8K (maybe it does, how "flexible" are we talking exactly? :p) - at which point the Leon Mk.II 2.0TFSI comes into play. 182bhp and 7.6s to 60 so it's no slouch, and IG14.

Having said that though, when I took a Sport trim 2.0FSI Leon for a drive, the interior struck me as very bland. It looked well held together, but if it's something that's likely to bother the OP then I don't think a Leon is for him. :)

i prefer the mk1 leon. the interior is nowhere near as bland and i think it's better built too
