    Hey guys,

I am speccing a gfx card for a mate of mine who has a limited budget of around £130, can anyone tell me if the card below would be better than say a 256mb 6800GT with ddr3 ram, thanks in advance

    ASUS N6800/TD/512M Geforce 6800 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X

    thanks. :)

It is slower, the memory is only 128bit and the card only has 12 pipes

True but you could unlock the pipes to make it a GT (if you're lucky)

Go for the 6800GT, the 128 bit memory bus will hamper the cards performance even if it does unlock.

The N6800 is a bit of a dog tbh... even with unlocked pipelines my trusty BFG 6600GT OC wiped the floor with it (by an astonishing margin too) in 3DMark06 and the HL2 Lost Coast stress test.

Another vote for the 6800GT here. It's just the better card as unlocking is never guaranteed with the 6800NUs, and it has crippled memory anyway. Not to mention that 512MB is a true waste on a 6800NU, even X1*00s and 7*00s rarely use that much memory in games.
