My partner and I are moving and so our house will be empty for a while until we sell it (moving to another city, renting there for a while). According to the council If I move out of the house, leaving it occupied by just my partner we can claim a 25% discount on council tax (single occupancy). But when she then also moves out (leaving the house unoccupied, but furnished) we can only claim a 10% discount! (apparently this used to be 50% which makes more sense).

Work that one out...

Using the word council and logic in the same sentence doesn't usually work too well...
I'm surprised they don't have some sort of extra monthly fee to charge because you're moving out.

BS, your council is trying to pull a fast one. You are entitled to six months paying NOTHING. after then it's full wack again forever

There was a thread on this a few months back, someone was leaving there house empty and was moving, and was quite upset about the 50% now being 10%. Was a few months back now, lemme see if I can find it
