For me linearity isn't a negative. When I was younger I used to like more open games but as I've got into my mid 30s I don't have the patience whenever I get lost or return to a game after a while and have no clue wtf is going on. I wanted to love The Witcher 3 but struggled to get into it whereas games like Uncharted and God of War get me hooked.

Exactly this for me as well. I've always enjoyed all the Uncharted games because I can just chill and play at a nice pace. Playing through the first right now and I am loving it all over again. I haven't got time for open world games anymore and I used to love them. Far Cry 5 was the last one I tried - bored me to tears.

Given your gripe about the last of us and everything else you said, it sounds like Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption and Witcher 3 are the perfect games for you. I'd go HZD first, incredible game.
