After all these years documenting weddings, here's my advice to anyone thinking of getting married

There is no benefit for a man getting married.
If you have kids, it gets even worse for you if things go south.

I know plenty of men who have been completely screwed over by marriage.

Not being married doesn't mean you can't live together, have kids etc

Difficult to have a view on this, I know dozens of guys, I don’t
know any that have been screwed over by marriage, but I know
quite a few whose marriages have failed, I can’t believe you’re serious.

Depends how you interpret screwed over I guess.
I mean it in the way that the guy has been significantly financially wounded.
I also know a few who had clean and fair break ups as well.

The risk is just too high.

One of my best friends would whole heartedly agree with you on that as he would use that exact phrase of 'screwed over'. I'm pretty sanguine on the matter though.

Financially wounded, or being screwed over, implies that someone has suffered a financial loss by losing money through no fault of their own, to someone with no right to that money.
Not easy to see an ex wife and kids in that light, whatever the reason for a marriage split, they are normally entitled to some monetary maintainance.
I’m bending over backwards trying to see all this in a reasonable light, but marriage is ‘a risk too high?’.
Gimme a break, are you apprehensive about crossing the road, as that can be a risk too?
