Hi all,

I currently have a 6800GT, AMD64 +3400 754 socket.

Im wondering if its worth me buying a new mobo that has PCI E and get this Sapphire X1800 XT or not.

Would the difference justify the effort and money spent? Would my CPU bottleneck the card?

I did the same thing, moved from an AGP 6800GT. Bought a S754 PCI-e board and 7800GT, was a very simple upgrade, no hastle, didnt even need a re-install of the OS as both boards where Nforce.

I wouldnt worry about your CPU, most games nowadays seem to be gpu limited.

Don't worry ive ordered the card! Hehe! I caved in last nite through peer pressure from this forum ;).

Just got an email saying it and the mobo have been shipped, yipee! Theres something magical about ordering PC parts and coming home from work to find a City Link box and bag :D

I think I should be ok with my CPU, gonna be OCing upto hopefully around +3700.

Good choice, x1800 XT is a stonking card, and at that price its a steal, you will have a slight bottleneck with your CPU, but the performance increase will still be staggering, ive only got an A64 3500+ with an x1800 XT 512mb, and its staggering, only use 1280x1024 here to as having a TFT, can play all games maxed out perfectly fine, Cod2, Fear, Oblivion, i play that maxed everything, 2xAA/16xAF plus HDR on, and its simply stunning, so you won't be dissapointed, i went from an x800 XT PE to it to, and was blown away by the increase, so going from a 6800 GT to one will be staggering to as said. :D

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Yeah, tiny bottleneck but nothing even worth worrying about. But if it bugs you like it did me, you'll get 3700+ speeds without a slight bit of effort. :)

I cant see an X1800XT 256 running oblivion maxed out at 1280x1024 with 2x and 16x wiith hdr and have playable frame rates at all. I run a 2.6ghz X2 with mine and it struggles with hdr+2xaf.....

I run pretty much maxed with mine at 1280x960 with HDR and 4xAA. I've discovered it can do 1600x1200 too, but I have to turn off all shadows or it chokes. :( Others have seen similar results, some not so good.

I do Windows re-installs fairly often, and I make sure to run stuff like Spybot, HijackThis, and Crap Cleaner a few times a day. Not to mention defragging like mad and some creative .ini tweaks. It all adds up.

And you'd be right.

Don't worry about your low performance m8, my x1900 struggles too, it's absolutely normal ;)
