Anyone know about stats?

I am trying to establish whether there is any link between whether a group of residents want new development or not, and the duration of their residency. The responses with regard to development are simply YES and NO, whilst the length of residency for each respondent is in years e.g. 7, 9, 0, 22, 14, 16 etc

Would it be appropriate to test the significance of responses with respect to residency length using the Mann-Whitney U test, or should I be looking at an alternative approach?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks Nix, you're a credit to the forum!

I'm not studying stats at all, hence my lack of ability. I did do a little at uni and I'm sure I kept the idiot-proof guide somewhere but don't have it to hand. Was just looking for confirmation really because I couldn't find a worked example too similar to my work.
