Does anyone know of an application, preferably freeware and command line based, that will gather information about the PC it is running on (e.g. disk space, software/hotfixes installed, users, IP) and output it to a txt file?

Windows XP and 2003 comes with the tool 'systeminfo' which is pretty good for OS, processor and hotfix information for the PC. Something like systeminfo that digs deeper would be great. (If the app could output the info to an xml file that would be amazing, but to a text file would be fine).

    Anyone have any recommendations?

    Hi ya mate,

Not sure it will meet all of your requirements, but Belarc Advisor is certainly worth a try. Click Here to download.

in cmd if u type systeminfo > file.txt

This will save the output to a txt file for you. You could write a .bat file to do this.

I've used systeminfo but it doesn't quite get as much info as I would like.

Thanks everyone for replies. WUL seemed like the best freeware app for running using CLI, but still quite limited.

I'm going to endeavour making my own app to gather system info using VB.net.
