    Hi All

On Saturday night I was seriously assaulted. I was having a quiet drink in a pub in Cardiff when for no apparent reason I was punched in the face. I was taken to hospital where they found I have a broken nose, cheekbone and possible damage to my right eye. I have to go back Wednesday to see a surgeon about my cheekbone, they may have to rebuild it. Also, an eye specialist to going to check on the progress of my eye they won't know if there's permament damage until around 10 days after the event.

I feel like absolute crap at the moment. :(

Yes for no reason. The security in the pub chucked him out, they are supposed to detain him. Lucky enough, the police caught him an hour later. I have witnesses, the police have taken pictures of my injuries and taken a statement from myself. Apparently, the guy is known for this. They have released him on bail although they said they need to wait on medical evidence from the hospital before they can charge him. This will take three months.

Sorry but WHAT? The guy assulted you publically, regardless of 'medical evidence'!! Sue the police!

that's ridiculous, some people are just so very unhinged mentally, few years ago I was walking home after a night out and someone attacked me for no reason, thankfully I got away unhurt, but it really makes you wonder about people

I will have to confirm it but I think depending on the outcome of my injuries is whether they charge with ABH / GBH. I'm not sure on the difference. I will check on Wednesday as I have to go to an ID parade.

I think I will. Apparently this pub has really good CCTV so that's another positive.

I was punched through my car window (which was closed) when sat in traffic for absolutely no reason and my eye socket was fractured.

Police took a statement but refused to check cameras of the area or do anything else. They said it would be pointless to investigate and shrugged it off as a steroid abuser, which was probably true, but not the kind of person you want walking the streets assualting people on a busy saturday afternoon in broad daylight.

I wouldn't let the Police idssuade you from proscecuting this guy and pushing for loss of earnings and distress etc. For all the people out there who get assualted and can't do anything about it, people like this need to be made an example of. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope your eye is OK.

Sorry to hear about that. Can I ask how long for the swelling on your eye to go down? My eye is shut at the moment.

It's GBH for sure. ABH would be if you'd been left with a bit of a bruise or similar low-level damage. Broken nose/cheek bone = GBH.

I hope you ID him and he gets a particually lengthy sentence for what he done. Could you let us know how it all turns out in the end please.

Wishing you well with your recovery mate.

I guess it'd depend on the damage? Will probably slowly go down over a week or two.

I could open my eye after a couple of days but it was swollen and coloured for a good two or three weeks. I do tend to recover quickly, especially with bruising. I was lucky that I didn't have broken skin and a quick XRay saw that my eye socket was fine to heal on it's own.

    1) shame it happened to you
    2) What can you really expect from this ? a couple of hundred quid compensation, week or 2 of looking a tool, and an uneasy feeling u are going to have for the rest of your life about every other human you ever meet or see.

I wouldn't dwell on it, there's going to be no justice for the guy, the police wont care too much just take your compensation and move on.
