Mrwhosetheboss quite liked the 8 - said it's one of the best boring phones going.

Editt - no wireless charging on the 8 though :(.

I'm waiting for a decent replacement for my OP6T which is still running well but there just doesn't seem to be much available.

As Asus spoke about the ZenFone 8, I was thinking the larger version is bound to be the replacement I'm after but I just don't think it is. Shame really.

I give up with manufacturers these days. It's just so frustrating. You wait multiple generations of a product, hoping they'll add features to the device which are clearly capable in hopes of making a great product, but they just completely go the opposite direction.

The Zenfone (or I guess the Flip as it's now known) has always been on my radar since the first version (Zenfone 6), because of its huge, uninterrupted display, and also it had a lot of other features I look for like a microSD slot, front facing speakers and headphone jack. I waited because the cameras weren't that great on the 6, so then comes the Zenfone 7, which improved the cameras...but then they removed the headphone jack.

Sigh...fine, let's wait for the next one. So now we have the Zenfone 8 Flip, and while there haven't been huge improvements, they've improved the speakers (which I'd always hoped for since the Rog Phone series has always been lauded for its speakers), and the headphone jack is back. Hooray! Finally, a phone with a huge, uninterrupted display with good speakers to compliment it, microSD, headphone jack and half decent cameras. Literally about as perfect a phone I could ask for!

...No wait, what? They haven't added the improved speakers and headphone jack to the Flip, but instead added those to a smaller, boring phone with a hole punch?! And the 8 Flip still doesn't have a headphone jack or improved speakers?!

    FFS!

Its nice to know you can get a SD888 in the same size package as a Pixel 5, they are basically the same same size.

However, even with the 120Hz display, headphone socket and other bits, early reviews are criticising the camera. You can't have everything!

The 8 seems to be ticking all the boxes except the camera.

I was tempted because its the SD888 in the Pixel 5 form factor, but now I will wait for the Pixel 6 later in the year and hope they continue with a compact model.

Have you seen the leaked renders? Looks like a radical change. Hopefully they go with a flagship soc.

Yep, I am looking at the Pixel 6 on here, the web rumors claim the chip will be very similar to Exynos, Google simply using ARM building blocks, time will tell.

Rumors for the camers claim anything from Samsung to the latest one inch Sony sensor.
