I have suddenly have had an extra boot option appear called:
(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

    Before:
    Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition

    After:
    Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition
(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

What is it? If I boot to that option it appears to be exactly the same as my normal XP Home

Edit your Boot.ini file, delete the new line and all should be back to normal.

did you install any windows themes or software to alter windows themes, more importantly, the windows boot up screen, as some make a backup line as you described, in case the new screen fails.
