Ill only mention a few games... but 2 pages in and only 4 mentions of goldeneye not inc me :( :( :( that game was simply the perfect ever game ever! brought tears of joy to my eyes.

er as im still only 20 years young it'll be rude not to mention POKEMON!!! red, blue, non conformest yellow with the free meowth cuddly toy, pokemon stadium (oh the joys of running GBC pokemon on a tv at 4 x the speed!!) gold silver and then i grew up (bear in mind i just installed leaf green on my android phone...).

and i saw a cheeky mention of star wars galaxies, oh ive never had a game with so much drama in my life! (well other than the dark and light beta hahahahahahaha ahahahahahaha hahahahahaha oh... hahahahah epic fail) joined pre-cu, unlocked jedi, the cu (lost a 1.2k PH made me cry but i could live on) and then finally the NGE which just well killed the game. it makes me laugh when the SWG fans say SW:TOR will be for children when thats exactly what the NGE was made for.... Pot calling kettle black! but yes i did slave away many hours, was in love some might say, love to an extent i was blind to actually see how broken the game was however the community so great! it was what gave me my morning wood....

other fantastic mentions: KOTOR 1&2, Halo 1,2&3, GTA series, Rollercoaster tycoon, modeal of honour, portal.

Angband (Zangband variant was a good alternative too)
Civilization (the fourth Civ is pretty good too, but original is original)
Company of Heroes, specifically the multiplayer
Counter-Strike
Day of Defeat
GTA 3 (+every GTA made after this, really)
Half-life 2
iRacing (best physics ever made, so far)
Max Payne 2 (art style + gameplay over fancy graphics and other useless crap games have these days)
NHL95
NHL10 (hardcore mode is a game changer)
Richard Burns Rally (only realistic rally game)
World of Warcraft (my first, still the best, no other MMO comes close overall)

Quite a lot of new games but some of the Amiga classics are just below these games.

I could never narrow it down to one game... 3 memorable titles for me were

  1. Half Life
  2. Desert Combat (Mod)
  3. GoldenEye

But here was also Max Payne, Doom, Wolfenstein, the Battlefield series, Team Fortress Classic, all 3D Grand Theft Autos, Civilisation, Command & Conquer, Dune II, MoH:AA, Sim City, Tie Fighter, Mafia, Call of Duty 1, 2 & 4, Jedi Knight II, Portal, Asteroids, Wing Commander 2 & 3, Red Alert 2, Gran Turismo, Mega-lo-Mania, Speedball II, NFS: Most Wanted, Half Life 2, Ikari Warriors, Test Drive, Soldiers: Heroes of WWII... I could go on. :p

the two games that are possibly the greatest ever in my mind are

zelda ocarina of time N64
half-life series

without doubt quality titles and others worth a mention would be...

metal gear solid series
super mario n64
goleneye n64
grand theft auto series
resident evil series

i have to mention also the old games from developer RARE done on the n64 are genius and had to be ahead of thier time.the dreamcast was another quality one but eventually sony polluted the market with thier quanity ahead of quality.its heartbreaking to be a graphics whore with the ninteno flea i mean wii.why on earth cant ninteno bring back the magic in 1080p and with graphics that rival sony and microsoft.

a bit of info on RARE

Rare is located in Twycross, Leicestershire, UK. It has developed many games for Nintendo's gaming consoles

Donkey Kong Country (and its sequels)
Killer Instinct
Banjo-Kazooie (and its sequels, excluding Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts)
Blast Corps
GoldenEye 007
Perfect Dark
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Diddy Kong Racing <--- OMG LOVED IT:D
Donkey Kong 64
Jet Force Gemini
Star Fox Adventures
Diddy Kong Racing DS

90% of the above games are brilliant and in thier day easily got 9/10

Sadly In 2002 Rare was acquired by Microsoft.:(

Well i think the OP meant only to post one game not whole lists. But for me it would have to be

Oblivion - until the sequel comes out i cannot see how the game can be bettered

A very close second would be Half Life 2 and it's episodes. The immersion into there world was amazing.

No one's mentioned any oddworld games... :(

Games I keep coming back for more:

Abe's Oddysee

Abe's Exodus

Megaman Battle network 1-6 ( had a load of fun with these in school days, we used to have tournaments on it :D)

FFX

Sonic on the Megadrive (the years I wasted playing this with friends)

Half Life (I never finished it, I'm waiting for BM: Source)

HL2 + Episodes

Psychonauts

Portal

Lumines (great puzzle game to spend 10 minutes on playing on the bus or something)

Bioshock (was something different to me)

Fallout 3 (current game of choice for me, 90 hours and I'm not even half way through yet :D)

And of course Left 4 Dead (gotta love the co-op).

BF1942.

Just got so addicted. You know -- learning every single map off by heart.

It was in the days when multi-person vehicles weren't really that present in computer games .. multiple people sitting in 1 tank doing different things -- just awesome.
