But the thing with malts is that they change so much from bottle to bottle, the different regions of scotch vary as much as wines.

I for one really like Speyside single malt, but some seem to think they are too bland and prefer the island malts as they have a very strong distinct taste.

Each to his own I guess, but Jack is nice imo.

Bourbon != Whisky.

Pretentious Whisky types for the lose.

For a bourbon to mix with coke, Jim Beam Black (double and a bit, single ice cube, splash of coke) is head and shoulders above JD.

Neat, cheap bourbon - JB White or Johnnie Blue/Black.

Single barrell sour mash for sipping.

JD is a sour mash whiskey. Soco's not a whiskey, you're right, but it doesn't claim to be...
