Hey Folks so i have my new Build built which consistes of a R7 1700,GAMING K7,16GB Trident Z RGB and a 960 EVO 500gb drive and it is running great :)

im just using a second hand HD 7850 2gb atm and im getting around 40fps on medium settings playing Destiny 2 with my Ultrawide Monitor :(

Now i have been waiting to get a RX VEGA 56 Either a Aorus or Strix card but seeing as there still not released and there expected to be very overpriced i dont see if im going to get one at under 500 pounds

as you can see from my description i have the LG 34UC79G 144hz Ultrawide 2560x1080 Freesync Monitor which i picked up a month ago from OCUK for the nice sum of 390 pounds :)

Now ive seen a GTX 1080 Aorus edition 10gbps Card for less than 500 pounds is it worth just picking that up and not having Freesync and just running it in 144hz or shall i wait till the January sales to see what happens?

Also i want this to last the next 5+ years without upgrading

I had a 1080 with a Freesync Ultrawide and only kept it a fortnight as I couldn't lose Freesync after getting used to it. Fortunately it didn't cost me much as I got back pretty much what I spent on the 1080

While I'd not advise Vega purely on performance at the current AIB prices... If adaptive sync makes so much difference then even if he's not experienced it yet it's still relevant to the comparison as that's what he'd get with Vega no?

I'd grab an RX 580, I'm currently running an RX 480 with a 3440x1440 Freesync monitor and it's running everything well enough with some tweaks to the settings, With a 2560x1080 Freesync monitor it'll do okay..

If he's using a HD7850 it won't support freesync will it? Doesn't it need like a 290 upwards to support freesync?

The oldest cards with Freesync support are from the 200 series namely the 260, 260x, 285, 290 & 290x.

The 7850 chip was also in the 265 & 370 so neither of those had Freesync support either.

The craic is, that for the investment you put in to your build you want the reward of having the best possible gaming experience - if you don't utilise the freesync on your monitor by getting an AMD card then you won't be getting that. And it will niggle away at you if you don't get an AMD card. The reality is that unless OCUK can pull more small quantities of Vega cards from their hat at normal prices (they had 10+ Vega 64's for £499 one day last week, they were all gone the following day) then you are going to have to pay considerably more than a short while ago for the privilege.

I thought the 480 was a bit lacking on 3440x1440. Sure, you can turn several settings down to get reasonable frame rates, but my Vega is doing so much better. I surely wouldn't want to run that card for years, I was only using it temporarily.

I had a rx 480 with that monitor that did exceptionally well as the resolution was easy to drive.

Vega 56 is a wonderful card but you may struggle to consistently get close to 144 fps with the Ryzen cpu.

As you said you wanted 60 fps minimum and 100 fps average you should be alright with a rx 580 as well and you would have the pick of any aftermarket card you wish.
