BIOS only detecting 4gb out of 6...

Got my new parts a couple of days ago (i7 930, ASUS P6T SE, 6GB Patriot Viper, TX850). Everything seemed to work fine.

Then today while in the BIOS I noticed that it was reporting only 4088MB of memory. Windows also shows only 4gb. CPU-Z however detects all three 2GB modules.

I have tried removing and putting back all the modules, as well as switching them around and still no change.. I even remounted the CPU heatsink (not tightening it as much this time) as it has been said to solve such an issue, but that didn't work either..

Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

With mine it was crushed pins, but the last time someone had this issue it was just the ram needed re seating.

Easiest test is just try a stick at a time see if it will boot.

When mine had crushed pins on the cpu, it would not boot off the first slot but would with ram in the 2nd

Right well I took your advice and started testing each slot individually. The system wasn't posting at all in any of the slots with the first module I tried. Grabbed a different stick and it posted.....

So I guess this means a bad stick?
