It's been 7 years since Borderlands 2. Gearbox milked it for a while, then had the disaster of Battleborn. And let's not forget Duke Nukem Forever itself - much as we might wish to forget it. Now Gearbox are embroiled in legal troubles with accusations of kiddie porn flying.

So, how long will it be before we see BL3?

From what I've read Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has as good as admitted that it's coming which various tech demos shown at conferences around the world and has also said he doesn't want a long period between announcement and release so I'm expecting a reveal at E3 in June and a release later this year.

I am not Pitchford's biggest fan but for clarity, the reports say "This girl’s handle was ‘Only 18". Make of that what you will but at this stage, to call it "kiddie porn" is misleading.

But they had not even mentioned a BL3 until relatively recently and last I heard it was mostly done. This could be great, BL2 was awesome.

Some time this year, probably when it's done. It's going to sell no matter what or when. Regardless of any of Gearbox's misfire, BL has always been their signature game, and always been brilliant and a big seller. If they don't screw up the recipe they invented, there's no reason for it not to be epic like the previous two games. It what they do best, it's been their biggest hit(s).

i loved borderlands 1 but 2 bored me. i finished most of it but it wasnt as good as one and the pre sequel was just terrible. i cant see what much new it would bring to the table tbh.

Same here really. Except TPS, which I haven't played. I didn't dislike the second game. But I didn't love it as much as the first.

Got a feeling this will be one of those absent franchises that feels stale on its return. I'm expecting Crackdown to suffer a similar problem. Both will likely be decent games, but in last gen's mould.

Also for those guys excited about when and if it is announced prepare yourselves for microtransactions and monetisation, gaming economies have moved on lots since BL2 and if any game was ripe to include the grindiest of grind loot crate, purchase time saving, premium currency or P2W mechanics Borderlands is most definitely it.

Not saying it will but given the way Borderlands works and plays it wouldnt suprise me if it has all of the worst examples of in game purchases.

Randy Pitchford has spoken out vociferously against microtransactions. He was ****** that the Borderlands "loot boxes" name has been taken over for microtransactions/gambling in other games.

All I know is that BL2 is my most played game on Steam and i'd throw money at them for BL3.

RE: Loot crates. Never even considered spending money on these and SHIFT codes were released way more than I wanted to use them. Still have a tonne of keys in game lol.

BL2 was FANTASTICS, and BL1 and TPS were on par for me.

A very good game indeed, but I'm not sure I'd go that far!

Didn't realise that, at least that offers some hope to the way the game maybe structured. Would be great if it didnt include any of the modern monetisation garbage and made a killing in sales just to show that scummy economies within games are not needed.

BL2 was so good, looking forward to more of that humour. When it was funny, it was very funny.
