It's common amongst most of the boys in the school my younger brother goes to. Certainly a horrible habit.

This has been a trend for years - Mainly with young gents ranging from about 12 - 20 years old

Pretty sure it came from people carrying knives in there (in their undies??) so walking around like that is a sort of implied threat of getting stabbed.
