About 8 years ago I bought a CAD/CAM software package with a licence for Educational/hobby use. after a year or so I changed computer and didn't bother installing it on the new machine. Recently I have tried to install it on my current machine and its says it can't write to the floppy so it can't continue installing. I've now spoken to their support team who have given me the following excuses.

  • The software is locked to one machine only.
  • The software will only install on windows 98 or earlier windows versions.
  • You could upgrade to our latest version for several hundred pounds.

I don't buy into the locked to one machine thing because during the installation set up it says it can be installed on another machine provided it is removed from the first one. Also I have tried to install it onto a machine with a fresh windows 98 OS and still get the 'can't write to disk' problem.

How long would you expect to be able to use software after you bought a licence for it ?
