but more of a risk from other drivers/kids messing about, and more prone to the likes of being keyed, tyres slashed etc, so garage should be lower ?
Garage typically always more expensive. People baffled for the reasons you put forward. But I guess there has been enough garage parking incidents/car through the dining room to offset a handful of keyed/tyre slash events lol.

It's just statistics. You are overestimating people's ability to drive/park, squeezing into a garage will cause more damage than vandalism on average unless you live in a really dodgy area. Then compared to street parking it has the added issue of being directly associated with a property in most cases, they take your keys from your house and then straight to the garage knowing the key will be for that car. Same risk for driveway parking of course, but less accidents.

The key issue I find with people being incredulous about insurance premiums, is they are often incredibly self-centred in their thought processes. They think "I am amazing at parking, so I will never ding my car". "My garage is massive and my car fits inside with acres to spare". And this may be very true. But the insurer doesn't know this, they just have a set of statistics, telling them how much money they stand to lose from garage parking compared to driveway parking on average.

Just got my renewal through from Ageas. £100 more than last year and no claims have been made! Will be jumping ship I think, got much cheaper quotes from elsewhere, one less than £200 but missing some options and even Direct Line, who I jumped from last year due to a price increase on renewal are cheaper! Anyone with Hastings Direct? They're the cheapest.

I done webchat and they got rid of the 30 quid renewal admin fee which made the policy as cheap as other ones in compare the market.
Most of those compare the market companies seem to be underwritten by sabre

Just got my insurance through, it's gone up by £50 a month.

Not bad considering I had a £40k pothole claim that's just completed....I was prepared to be fully bent over!!

£50 a month?

1. Please be a typo
2. Please for gods sake stop paying car insurance monthly.
Haha thanks I guess I should have added some context, the policy covers a few cars and extra drivers, and is 0% so the same monthly or annually :)

I know I should ring and haggle but I don’t have many other options since there’s no chance I’m installing one of those black boxes in my RS6 for example.

Total price is still well under 1% of the insured value but I have a recent non fault claim and with this fault claim I was figuring it might double or something because a lot of specialist providers put the phone down at the word “fault”.

I have a relative with a small collection of around 7 cars that he insures with Admiral for around 6k a year with the most expensive being a 911 Turbo S worth around 80k(?)! He is looking for cheaper insurance but has had a few accidents recently. Who would be a recommended insurer?

He's a Doctor and based in the Sheffield area and in his 50's, I feel like 6k is a bit much!

I'm guessing you work for a relatively large composite insurer with a decent sized personal lines book from your posts ! We should compare notes sometimes!

Just renewed my Mum's 1.0 EcoBoost Fiesta (2017) - from £284 to £253. A no-fault theft claim has just dropped off after 5 years. Her mileage has dropped from 5k to 3k. Not sure why it is so high, but I guess her age is catching up with her (73).

I honestly think folk in situations like this stumble into this. My boss was paying a ludicrous amount for his E43 CSL, 991, Defender, V12 DBS and daily driver - he only stopped to think when he asked my advice on getting his daughter insured on her 1 series and thought "oh hold on, maybe I should check". He saved literal thousands per year.

I worked in Insurance either directly or indirectly for about 15 years, but not any more. When I was directly employed by an insurer, personal lines was a relatively small albeit growing part of the overall book, and the chances of finding them on the first page of a comparison site for Motor is basically nil :) Motor tended to be more high end cover sold via broker channel or as part of a bigger home policy etc.
