Hi,

I'm looking to set up a basic CCTV system.

Ideally I would like to have 2 IP Cameras (maximum of 4 total in future) to start with which connect to my network and record directly to my PCs hard disk. Is this possible?

In terms of the cameras I was thinking I would like something that is:

- PoE
- 2.8mm Lens
- 2MP+ Resolution
- IP Rated

I found these:
- HiLook by Hikvision IPC-D140-H-M for around £65
- HikVision 4MP DS-2CD2145FWD-I for around £101

Does this sound reasonable or is there any thing else you would recommend?

Thank you

Hi Sohail,

I have recently installed NEST cameras. They store information on a cloud and literally boot up once you plug in so very easy to install. I highly recommend them.

I was looking into this the other week and concluded i'd just get a couple of Nest ones if i do go ahead, saves all the faff of setting it all up yourself and having to keep on top of it. You'd need a decent NAS to stream all the files to which is a fair chunk of cash and then replacing the hard drives every few years etc etc plus if your house got robbed chances are they'd take the PC & NAS anyway! I reasoned it'd be easier just to stream it to the cloud for a fairly nominal fee per year and be done with it. I believe they're still on offer for a few more days?
