Will that work? Socket AM2 is 940 pins but different design from Socket 940 used by some/older Opterons'. Still, I prefer your earlier spec

Damnit I hate decisions.

The AM2 rig has the benefits of being future proofed, can handle 4 sticks of RAM at 1T (which means a year or two down the line could happily be upgraded to 4Gb), the extra graphics card should be more than adequate for anything I throw at it...

But it's all new technology...

Just imagine...quad core AM2 cpu later on, quad core graphics...lol! It's just hit me how much of a power house new desktop PCs are going to become. Right, let me go read that GX2 review...

Hmmm, if AMD do retaliate to the Conroe - it's going to be AM2 based...
